I'm pretty sure Detroit has the cap space to take on Jake's full contract. Imagine the uproar though if Jake went to Detroit and became a 30 goal scorer in the top 6 and Bertuzzi has to retire in 2 years due to back problems? And then to make matters worse DiPietro turns into a legit starting NHL goalie and Yzerman drafts a top 4 defenceman with the 2nd round pick. This is the problem with trading young assets and picks for players over the age of 25. The Mantha trade is a good example. That's going to look really bad in 2-3 years.
