You can't overpay based on character alone. You wouldn't be a GM for very long. Lots of guys have good character...doesn't mean you should overpay them.

J-P
OEL said in his interview today that "I know I haven't been good enough" and also expressed that it was natural that trade rumours etc. occurs if you don't live up to your contract. He's still put up 0.5 PPG during the last 4 years, and I'd imagine there are a lot of players that would look at the issue as being something other than themselves. I like that attitude - although the 4 years might indicate he sees Tocchet as part of the problem - and also that he seems genuinely anxious to get over and start skating right away! 1

He then came in to camp where his conditioning wasn't at a level that Green expected; not fat. He put his nose to the grindstone last season. He came in to camp in shape. Obviously he was progressing. He was playing well on the Horvat Pearson line and was doing the right things away from the puck. If he kept playing that way then the points would have eventually came. He's not the only player to have a tough time with the restrictions and Covid. People are writing him off but he will rebound and fans will cry about why couldn't he do that here. Popular Post ilduce39
This upcoming season feels like JB’s last big kick at the can. I would have preferred a slower approach but maybe this is the right call after all. The core is the right age where they need to start carving out playoff experience or risk becoming a stale team that just can’t put it all together. Thus far, we’ve had (IMO) a productive offseason season geared towards finding success next year. After exit interviews, the team obviously still responds to Green and I think his style (with some polish in their own zone) suits the players well. We locked up Ian Clark. Brought in an experienced, highly qualified voice to shore up our defensive play in Shaw. On a bigger level - the team is bringing in, slowly, two of the best human beings and smartest guys ever to play for the team in managerial roles with the Sedins. Gigantic wins and solid decisions in coaching and management, in my opinion. Coming out of a brutal Covid year - I can see the benefit to this huge trade - the team now gets a gigantic vote of confidence after losing Tanev/Marky/Toffoli/Stecher last offseason. No more slow and steady - adding a legit top 6 spark plug in Garland to round out one of the best forward groups in the league. Dickinson is the rangy shutdown piece on the 3rd line and should have some high compete two way wingers like Hoglander, Pearson or Podkolzin to play with. The fourth line will have PK ace and spark plug in his own right Tyler Motte on it. Through injury he’s scored at a 14 goal pace the past 2 years. That’s an awesome wild card at the bottom of the lineup. On the back end, Hughes hopefully emerges from his sophomore slump - he’s the most electric defenceman to ever play for the club. He’s going to split top 4 LD time with a rejuvenated OEL who has averaged 40 points a year while admitting he isn’t playing well. Then we get to see what Rathbone / Juolevi can do on the 3rd pair - both guys have their own skill sets and seem ready to contribute. On the other side, we have Myers who can also produce a lot of offence and mash people when he wants to. Still some questions around Schmidt and/or Hamonic… but whatever happens this team should be able to produce offence at an elite level. Finally, it’s Demko’s team and his play will really determine how far this core goes. We’ve seen him take over series and stretches already. Man it sucks that we’re up against the cap and the cupboard is relatively bare.. and yeah OEL’s deal will very well stink in a few years but damn does this feel like a team ready to do some damage next season. 2 2
