That was obviously not the case, so with that being said, the next move was obviously to lock him up as long as it was for a reasonable contract. 8M per is exactly the right value, and all we can hope is that the last 3 years of the deal the cap goes up to the point where 8M is an okay contract still. I give the management team credit on this move. It was the right move if the overpayment through trade wasn't an option. The salary cap is expected to increase anywhere from 5-10 million in a single year - possibly as early as the summer of 2023. That 8m percentage of the teams cap will shrink as the cap expands making it more palatable.
