[Trade] Rangers trade Vitali Kravtsov to Canucks for William Lockwood, 2026 7th-round pick

Benning wasn't forced to give up 2nd round picks for prospects.  He could have moved out lower picks like Allvin just did today.  When you move out higher picks you take away the ability to get a quality NHL'er who can play in the NHL.  Benning wasn't forced to do anything.  Nobody forced him to sign Eriksson to a massive contract, sign Myers, trade for OEL.  Benning was responsible for all of those blunders.  Sure, Gillis didn't leave him with a whole lot, but that doesn't excuse Benning for screwing up most of his trades and free agent signings and screwing up our cap...

You’re just listing off “Benning mistakes”

Once the strategic decision to target prospects was made, picks were the only currency available to land them for Benning. Did he overpay?  Sure, in hindsight.  But players like Vey and Baertschi werent going to go for 7th rounders - not without a prospect with at least some utility going the other way.

It's quite refreshing to have a surplus of Russian players on the team after going so many years as somewhat of a Russia repellant organization.

I don’t really care about their nationalities too much, but I’m glad for the injection of skill and speed for the most part.

Kravvie seems to have that too and I’m looking forward to seeing if he can put it altogether with the Canucks and live up to his potential.

Buying low on a former top 10 pick. Can't be mad. I like Lockwood, he's got Motte upside. Kravtsov has top 6 upside. 5 years removed from his draft though. Hasn't really shown signs of growth. This could very well end up being a Goldobin situation. But here's hoping he pans out. I am on the fence here. I like Kravtsov's potential, but he doesn't help us remotely in what we need fixing. Not to mention it's getting harder and harder to fit all these middling one way wingers on this roster.

To be fair...he's been trying to crack a very deep Rangers forward group...but yeah hasn't lived up to his draft slot. Still young with huge upside

Not sure if defending or criticizing him. Benning does that to people.
Never mind his terrible pro scouting just his inability to recognize where his club was and what it needed. Even when Linden was telling him rebuild he stood fast and went for shortcut after shortcut.  He traded away more first and second rounders over last decade than anyone short of Boston and Tampa. He thought we should be a team built on pure skill when Chicago won then a big bruising team when LA won. He was a rudderless raft lost at sea.

With all of these young forwards the Canucks are bringing in, it would be interesting if VAN drafted

(RD) Axel Sandin-Pellikka at #7

(RD) David Reinbacher or (LD) Dmitri Simashev at #13

(LD) Caden Price or (RD) Oliver Bonk with the 2nd

That would bolster the D

Allvin just picked up a 9th overall pick from 2018 for a 7th rounder.  So, we don't know what Benning could have done.  He also could have targeted other players.  It's not like Vey and Baertschi were the only games in town.  Yes, I'm listing off Benning's mistakes.  What else am I supposed to do?  You are saying it was Gillis's fault that Benning couldn't succeed because he left him with nothing.  Like I said, Gillis did leave him with nothing, but nobody forced Benning to make the moves he did.  Another more competent GM may have made other different moves that could have taken this franchise into a different and better direction.

I agree to disagree on this one. I don't think Lockwood had any future at all. Again, I've been wrong lots in my life, but I don't think he is even going to have an NHL career outside of maybe a season or two.

I liked the way he played....but honestly looked like a very good AHL er for his projection. He looked ok on our 4th line when our 4th line was playing absolutely terrible. He projects as a 4th line grinder and those aren't hard to find.
