Who hits harder: Edler or Gudbranson? My vote goes to Edler. When he hits it looks like he hits through guys whereas ive seen Gudbranson many times bounce off his own hits
-
The Boesersson effect: We see it with good players all the time. Lucic chooses EDM with Mcdavid there. Matthews being in TOR might have had a lot to do with Tavares going there.

@C.A. Nuxno one in particular, but as others have said top college free agents would be a boon. Although the Canucks prospect pool is getting better I think there is still a lot of opportunity for new players.
As far as vets go Im not after the big ticket players. I think the young guys should fill those roles. Maybe a Bobrovsky though I can handle

S.O.B might make it as a great analyst.
-
I actually really enjoyed listening to him. I thought he may come off as a sarcastic ego mad party guy, but he had some good things to say and probably has a ton of great stories to share. He seems up front, wouldn't hold much back, and is honest. Listening to him talk about facing the Hawks back in the day, the hatred between teams and how fun that was. It brought back memories of that rivalry.

I know EP scored 2 goals but I honestly think the unsung hero of last game was Hutton by a country mile.

I never played hockey beyond Midget. So, never really appreciated defensive side of the game, tbh. I think you may be on to something though. The team looked very different under WD -- a lot of shoot ins. And very different under Torts -- a full court press game. Travis is different again, not sure what his system is, but the team seems to be giving up fewer 3 on 2, 2 on 1s and also seems to be getting more out of Edler, and now Hutton. They do pinch a lot, and generally don't give up the blueline as easily.
-
i really think edler has another year or 2 after this season of being a very effective dman for the nucks
the issue will be injuries
but i can see him easily playing 3 seasons after this one, he might decline in the 3rd year
he'd be a good mentor for our 2 young prospect, hughes and oj
if those 4 and hutton and stetcher and guddy are the main 7
we have a chance of being a much better d grouping next season
-
I'm a huge fan of Edler. That being said, right now you are seeing a defense that can really move. They are pinching aggressively and doing a pretty good job with coverage in their own end. I hate to say it but perhaps speed is the nail in the coffin for him.
Hutton might even be showing he can play a similar role next season:
Hutton StetcherHughes Tanev
Juolevi Gudbranson
Pouliot
-
Teams I dislike this year: no offense if you're a fan of these teams, well maybe not the Oilers.
1. Oilers2. Jets
3. TOR
4.SJ

@Jaku, @King Heffy, @coastal.view I forgot about Marchand. Honorable mention to BOS

What would be your signature sushi roll?
Im thinking 'Sushi in the Sky with Diamonds'
Not sure what Id put in it though
-
For all the hate MDZ gets and trade Tanev talk, those 2 (and Stetcher) went to the hospital and stayed there when Boeser got badly injured.

His offseason training looks pretty intense. I'm thinking that he'll have a solid season coming up.
The burgeoning team atmosphere that's slowly building here is really great, and is something that can't really be manufactured. Having that overall positive team chemistry mixed in with the acquisition of more physical players will make the Canucks a team that other teams won't really be looking forward to playing.
I think the Canucks might be doing the injuring more than being injured this coming season.

I think Hughes is gonna show up Makar

@Ghostsof1915 too late! All aboard the Hughes hype train!

Who are some of your favorite power forwards left in the draft?
-
Unlikely yes but here's hoping JB TL and TG can woo the heck out of Tavares. Canucks curse no more!!!

@luckylager Im going to bank on the Canucks having a great organization and future potential. You hear a lot of players saying they enjoy playing here and with JT being a stand up guy he would fit right in- heck he would be exactly the type of culture carrier the organization is after. BTW JB TL and TG Im hoping he sees a very smart hockey group as well.
but hey, its all just wishful thinking

I think the tough love with Hutton will have a good effect on him. I believe the Canucks want him in their line up but he needs to put the work in. A quicker and less fatigued Ben Hutton will be a great addition next season.
-
Concerns of Hutton are a bit blown out of proportion IMO. He was one of our best D at the beginning of the year and his play dropped off as his ice time dropped off. I thought him and Tanev were a great pairing. Seems like the writing is on the wall for him though, I'd be surprised if he is a Canuck by the start of next year.

Playoff hockey is great but lets get to the freaking draft already

High hopes kane and his little chi join VAN

Agreed, I'd rather try and get those things elsewhere though. The twins have maybe a year left and with their inevitable departure this team immediately gets much quicker. Virtanen is trending in the right direction this season and already brings the speed, grit could come. Hell, Gaudette has a legit shot at making the squad next season and that brings speed and sandpaper.
I'd be hesitant to hand out big money to anyone but Boeser over the next couple seasons because that Luongo recapture is gonna hurt us if he decides to retire. I don't think he will, but it's something Benning and co gotta consider too.
-
I think Kane would be a great addition to our team. The knock on Kane is his attitude and off-ice work ethic. To counter that, Jim has amassed a team full of character players that would be good mentors for someone like Kane. I honestly think that Vancouver gives Kane the best shot at becoming the best version of himself. And despite us being a rebuilding team, Kane loves Vancouver and has said he wants to play here.
I'd sign him to a 3ish year contract for the right price. If he wants longer, he'd have to take a pay cut. No NTC or NMC handed out.

So whose pullin a TDL all nighter? I just got home from work

Status Update #2: do you ever get the vibe that Travis Green is annoyed by the media just like Torts was? I love how short and critical he can get with some of the questions he takes. His presser's I always look forward to

Seems like in the beginning he was happy to answer questions and didn’t get upset. Then they (the media) procced to ask the exact same question over and over and over and start manipulating his answers to make a story. So now he’s jaded so he can’t answer truthfully he has to go to the script so words come out but nothing gets said.
“We worked hard and didn’t get the bounces “

Botchford: Canuck's didnt handle Tryamkin well. Are you serious? By all accounts they babysat that guy the best they could. He clearly wanted to be home playing in a league he's much more familiar with.
On another note, imagine Tryamkin wanted to be a hard nosed NHL player with a back end of Tryamkin//Guddy/Edler/Stetcher/MDZ//Biega. Could have been a feisty back end- Show previous comments 12 more

Perhaps babysitting Tryamkin was the problem. Some players just don't respond to ultra structured, hard ass approaches.
Tryamkin was arguably the defenceman on the team at that time that offered the most potential to be an impact player from the blueline in a two way perspective, but instead of just letting the guy play and giving him the minutes, they micromanaged him back to Russia.

Just putting this out there: if JB doesn't get re-signed I will probably stop watching the Canucks for awhile. Every firing over the past while I've understood, but no way in heck should JB be let go.

@MJDDawg I dont know if he was spelling anything out. Perhaps because the team is losing right now the timing isnt right. Im also not convinced he would be let go- more just putting it out there that I think he is a very good GM, and one of the main reasons why I like the direction this team is heading.

Trade for Andersson. do it

@Ghostsof1915 he was 7th overall? Yikes- I didnt check nor think it through. I just like the kid and would take him on my team any day!
@Green Building Yeah I know. Reality sucks

Thought Boucher had a decent game last night. I can definitely see increased effort even though he is still needs to work on his agility/speed.
-
It was unfortunate for Reid to have Gagner as his center. In my mind you play prospects in situations that best fit their roll and with complimentary talent to support that roll to give them the chance to succeed. Granlund would have been a better fit, but to Green's credit Boucher did get second unit PP time which I thought was excellent.
Boucher deserves a good look through this stretch of injuries competing with Goldobin and Burmistrov.
-
Impressed with Green's comments on Hutton. Here I am thinking he has been pretty sketchy this season but Green thinks he is developing well, and overall playing decent hockey. Really want to see him be a Canuck for a long time
-
For all the hate Gagner gets I like that he didnt hesitate for a second to back Virtanen up last night
