Can a line shuffle be as good as a trade?
Top line Jake, Lazarus Loui, Gaudette-Boeser? can this really produce 3 legit scoring lines? no TDL moves needed?

No, I don't believe a line shuffle is as good as a trade if you're actually getting a better piece.
However, when a rock star prospect gets added at the end of the season; that is better than a trade.
Pod could be that next season.
Could have a few guys breaking the door down next season actually.
Rambling here, but if Tree comes back at the end of the season he'll be great on the bottom pairing with Myers or Stech. Would be nice if he's top 4 capable, but it looks like he hasn't really developed offensively in the KHL. Maybe his D game has improved though. I dunno
Side note, in checking his stats on elite prospects, there's a "rumour" transaction notice posted today ....

True, Lazarus Loui has been quite the revelation on the 2nd line, both in terms of not being a liability anymore and actually contributing and gelling with his line-mates. Jake and Brock also appear interchangeable which can only be beneficial for depth.
Makes me wonder if we should still try to fix the 4th line though? I know we have a couple of the better guys (Beagle was the 4th line center for a Cup winning team, Motte has also shown good energy and Sutter is serviceable) but we could use a cohesive grind line that doesn't get buried. If we could find a guy who could be part of a unit which could lug the puck up ice, play physically, kill time, fore-check and score some (and hopefully we can shed cap along the way) then I think we could go quite far with this kind of top-12.

This is a good time for a new leader to want to step in. Low expectations, licence to make changes, and enough talent to work with to make something good happen sooner than later.

@Jimmy McGill We can buy out his last two years pretty easily.
Just hoping he can regain a step in his game in the first four years.

the north shore mountains look incredible today. Perfect day, no rain in the city, snow on the mountains.

About 1997? We had a snowfall in November. I was working for a cell phone company on the North Shore.
So I was driving over the Lions Gate Bridge. And snow was starting to fall. It was one of those picture postcard moments. Then I think it was CFMI on the radio, the DJ played Greg Lake's "I Believe in Father Christmas". It was that brief moment in syncronicity, and to top it off. The crescendo was right as I was driving off the bridge.
I won't forget that moment. I gotta say it was beautiful. Gave me chills, but in a good way. -
@Ghostsof1915 Awesome mate. it's beautiful how such moments get frozen in memory. Had one like that where I was drivin home from Cowtown(Dec 1992)..had broken up with LT girl, & even my heater(old Datsun) was broken!
:^) blowin cold air, all night thru the Rockies. I was blastin G & R, screamin lyrics louder than Axel, to keep warm. Finally reached Hope..the town that is, not the state of mind, Couldn't pick up Van radio yet, but wondered which tune would welcome me back to Gawd's country.
Around Chilli, there were Larry & Willy's grating enthusiasm, announcing they were now playing the MOST requested tune, for some call-in, who wanted to record the classic:
"I'll have a bbbbbbbb blue Christmmas, w,w,w,without youuuuuu!..." (the Porky Pig classic cover)
Felt so damn good..laughin with a tear in the eye! 28 yrs, & feels like yesterday.

A guy goes into this bar, sits down and orders a drink. While waiting, he sees a guy sitting at the bar who has a very big muscular body but a little tiny head. So, he asks the guy, "How is it that you have such a huge body and a small head?" The guy replied, "I was walking along the beach one day and I came across this bottle buried halfway in the sand. So I picked it up, brushed away the sand, and out popped this fine female genie. She said she would grant me three wishes for releasing her." "For my first wish, I asked for ten-million dollars, and POOF right there on the sand was $10,000,00." "For my second wish, I asked for a luxury yacht, and POOF right there on the ocean was a 90-foot yacht." "Finally for my third wish, I asked to have sex with the genie, but she said that genies were not allowed to indulge in that kind of activities." So, I said, "c'mon, how about a little head?"

If the playoffs started today, we'd face Calgary. We'd never be expected to win that.... but if we did it would be (insert answer here).

No one knows how to take a dump on a fanbase quite like Gary Bettman. I hope the players revolt and go to the Olympics anyway.

Is Necas our best pick from a development pov? He can go right to the AHL (aka the Nylander style development path), the others have to go back to junior or get rushed up.

Some will go to college which doesn't have to be a problem. We've had Hutton, Demko, and Boeser all sign and Gaudette looks happy to be Canuck affiliated.
The problem isn't the college system, it's looking out for the individual players that seem selfish/greedy/arrogant enough to wait for UFA status
-
@Zhukini for most players I'd argue the AHL is a much more realistic development situation than juniors, thats why. Nylander getting 100 games in the AHL was much more beneficial than spending that time in the OHL e.g.,
