@-AJ-- agreed, and just overall quality of play. I can think of only a few games where the Canucks looked seriously outmatched.

.500 is pretty much meaningless with the OT loser point.  In fact, we were one point over .500 after an ENTIRE season...not just a small sample of games in the season Torts was Coach. 

Remember what happened to Colorado a couple years ago? Tanked, finished last, all is going well right? Wrong. The lottery happened and they dropped to 4th. All finishing 31st does is it secures you a top 5 pick. Not worth it. 

@Heretic  Technically true but in actual fact the Sedins were the best two prospects to draft in 1999...even at the time they were drafted.  Stefan was only selected #1 overall because Burkie used his skills in 'wheeling & dealing' to get the Thrashers to pass on either Sedin.

They don't need to tank tbh, the Kings are getting old and are saddled with a few bothersome contracts. They're a slow team too which doesn't help with the league trending faster and faster.

They're four points out of a playoff spot but also four points up on the 29th overall team in the league. They can probably afford to hang around in the chase for a bit longer and still have a decent shot at a lottery pick.
