4th and 1st lines have been way off when last year, they were some of our better lines most nights. Not surprising as these two lines are off so are the special teams.

 

Nothing has changed with them. Motte is still with Beagle, Lotto line still together.

 

To me that's not a roster issue.

"Foundational" players.

I mentioned this after last game : except for Myers, who played great tonight, all these contracts will be gone in 2 years. It’s gonna hurt for a year or 2 more, but then, this team will be force! (If the effort is there, unlike the last 3 frickin games)

 

the first period showed, if this team shows up and actually try’s, actually gives a sh#t, they’re quite dominant. The personnel is mostly ok, it’s all between the ears right now.

If Gaudette buries one of his 4 grade A chances in the first, it’s a different game. But he didn’t and I think that’s what got the Flames going.

And I think it might be time to admit Matthew is the better player...

Once in a while, sure? But like @Junkyard Dog is saying, it's not a recipe for success.

 

The few times we've been good under Benning is when X goaltender is standing on his head no matter how brutal the boys play in front of him. The chances of one of our goalies stealing an entire season + playoffs are well, you know, not very good.

 

Exhibit A is the porous defence Benning has iced every year. Schmidt was a great pickup but if we are to go anywhere, guys like him need to be added to the core, not replace a core guy like Tanev. That's 1 step forward but 1 step back.
