It's better that he sticks in Utica, but it also isn't the end of the world if we require his services again. No that was last year vs san jose i believe

N4ZZY 1,359 Posted February 24, 2020 Surprised to see this trade. There were no reports beforehand about Markström’s knee injury. Does this affect contractual negotiations? How does his knee hold up as Markström ages? Deal has to be in the 3-4 year range now. If he’s asking for anything more than that. Let him walk. Huge risk for the organization to tie itself to a goaltender with an injury like this. Hopefully it’s not serious.

Smart thinking. DiPietro has just been handed the keys and his mission is to take Utica all the way. He would likely end up practicing and sitting in Vancouver. Benning and company understand that the young guys need to play and play a lot to gain experience in difficult situations. On balance, acquiring Domingue for a career minor leaguer is quite an astute move. Once Markstrom is back, Domingue can support DiPietro in Utica. All good. And to all all those who are mad that Benning didn’t make a big deal, two words: Tyler Toffoli. 3

Oaglee Booglie 0 Posted February 24, 2020 This may be a blessing in disguise. If Demko shines then the goalie of the future has arrived and it makes Marky dispensable this summer. At the very least he might reconsider asking for too much money from the Canucks in FA. If Demko falters, then it becomes imperative that Marky is re-signed and Demko is let go or traded. This scenario sorts out all of the goaltending question marks going into the summer.

Just wait until we add Tryamkin and maybe even Rathbone at the tail end of the season. "Free" assets due to good drafting by JB and crew. We needed a veteran backup to keep DiPietro marinating in the AHL. Domingue is pretty solid behind a decent team. We are a far cry from NJD level, so I think he will be a decent backup as long as our goal scoring continues to be strong in front of him.

Can't believe that I actually allowed myself to believe that this team would make the playoffs, let alone expect the WCF. I'm a total idiot. We're destroyed without Markstrom and have no chances of even being in the playoffs now, at least at a good enough seeding that we could actually make some noise (at best). So frigging tired of this. Bertuzzi in 2004 costs us the Cup. Malhotra's eye injury costs us the cup in 2011. And now our chance at the cup taken away again, as always. I'm in pieces.
