aGENT
This is not surprising. Still may be signed at lower cost. Still, I'd much rather see some reports on something we're doing than something we're not...
PetterssonOrPeterson
Good for the team option-wise. The Canucks would likely be able to offer him a cheaper contract in FA, and if worse comes to worst they would have to let him go. SergioMomesso
Like may posters said. He could still get signed here, just at a lower salary. If he does end up back in Vancity, I hope it's for no more than 2 million max.
Provost
If we miss out on Tanev too, it will be a tough road to replace the right side. For me, it is who you think you can win with. Qualify Virtanen and don't qualify Stecher... both local kids, one has had a poor work ethic for years and the other one would chew through a wall to win. Both have scary arb cases. I reverse who I qualify out of those two, or more likely I trade Virtanen before it comes to that. This is a function of bad cap management, I am sure Stecher signs if you give him some term with a 3 year, $2.5 million AAV deal. If you can't afford that, then it is the fault of the wasted money everywhere else. 1
48MPHSlapShot
I don't understand all the rules exactly. Does this mean he can't go to arbitration?

Coconuts
There were always going to be cap casualties, I figured he'd be one of them The trade market is even tougher than ever given a stagnant cap, not getting a return for him shouldn't be surprising at all

Still lots of unanswered questions....

Tetsuro88
Troy has bled canucks colours throughout his life, I'm sure they will go back to him once the OEL issues are resolved? he's a great 3rd pair guy.
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Just because he wasn't given a QO does not mean Canucks have no interest to keep him. I fully expect that they will try to negotiate a lower cap hit and longer term for him to stay. Love Stecher, but this isn't a new reality that just popped up, it was consider since last year when Ben Hutton wasn't give a QO. 1

We were one of the worst teams when Hutton and Stech were regulars on the blue line. Who would want that on their D corps?

It's unfortunate, despite the good results of some of the bottom-6 signings and the intentions behind it... perhaps keeping someone like Gilman would have been a more prudent move. VegasCanuck
Don't be surprised if he resigns around 1.75 - 2 million per season to stay in Vancouver. He was solid this year, especially in the playoffs.

flat land fish
Stech is all heart but probably not a fit above the 3rd pairing and honestly their could be some great deals made on free agents this year.

Virtanen would have likely refused the deal, if the cap hit is too low, and moved on. Canucks dont have a lot of money to go around to re-sign a lot of players. Hoping they sign him cheap or look at the kids for depth help

Why are you outraged about getting a qualifying offer, Jake? Want to go somewhere else? I'm pretty sure you could still get traded, so don't worry
