In the middle of the summer nobody wore masks and everyone was at the beach and we had single digit numbers.

Now everyone wears one and cases are through the roof and Christmas is cancelled.

Nothing makes sense

Something, something correlation, something, something causation.

Lots of people still wore masks in the summer (myself included) BTW.

I would think people heading indoors, kids going back to school and some level of Covid-fatigue/complacency likely has a lot more to do with rising numbers.

Imagine instead how much worse things could be if so many weren't wearing masks and following rules now...

Even 95% isn't that big of a deal.

IIRC, it's below 86% before you should really fix whatever that's causing it to be that low.  Sub-80's is when you're really feeling it.

If you're flying on an older 747.... your o2 would probably sink to the low-mid 80s.  So when you're flying domestic and you feel like your heart is pounding a bit harder and you seem to need to "catch your breath" more.... that's where your o2 level is at.

Sub 80s is bad, like dangerous bad. On the O2-Hb dissociation curve (spoilers) that's when it starts to slope more steeply (ie. more dangerous) meaning that the decreasing of O2 bound to hemoglobin (protein that bind O2 to red blood cells) accelerates, unless you fix whatever is causing it. Blood acidity, temperature and other factors also contribute. If you have a more acidic blood pH then it shifts the curve to the right and decreases the Hemoglobin affinity for oxygen. This is why it's so important for our health care system to not get overwhelmed. Basically we need to keep ICU patients in the safe zone of this curve. Covid not only decreases available O2 but also increases blood acidity by negatively impacting ventilation (CO2 build up) and thus shifts the curve to the right.

Spoiler

It's interesting to see how some people can correlate having an opinion based on ignorance to cold hard scientific fact.

That’s rookie stuff. If I go out I’m doing it with double-amputee bondage porn.

You got some sauce for that stuff there, partner?

So I guess 35,000 Doctors worldwide who have signed the Barrington Deceleration are not experts? Not to mention the countless other Virologists and Epidemiologist  who have spoken against the overall severity of this virus and the effectiveness of masks? Weird how only a select few opinions seem to matter but the others get brushed aside? Fascinating isn't it?

This isn't 1950. All the information is readily available. Up to you to look it up and make a rational, source based opinion.

What is this deceleration you speak of? I read the Barrington Declaration and it’s goofy as all get out. Just proves that not everyone in a profession is an expert.

A lot of future Darwin Award nominee’s out there - the part that rubs me is they also take out the innocents with their irresponsible take on it.   Personal freedoms are great, but this shouldn’t include the freedom to do harm, or possibly even kill.

Went to the grocery store yesterday, 99% of people wearing masks.  The only people NOT wearing them were some 70+ folks.... I am thinking to myself "dude we are wearing these to save your dumb ass, wear one too".

The anti-maskers out there that say they have a "medical card" from the freedom rally that think it should show that they need exemptions should realize that if they can't wear a mask, they probably shouldn't be out and about in the first place lol.  I read one of the facebook groups of the protest on the weekend and just felt sick seeing it.  Comparing it to Germany in WW2 shooting and killing jewish folks for no reason, acting like that is this with face masks, and just the other crap that was posted, generally I don't care and just brush it off as morons but the comparisons are just sickening.

Strange that they were allowed in....

We have a low infection rate up here, but there is literally no store anywhere in town where you can get in without a mask.....also, every business that I have been in over the past several months has a hand sanitizer placed at the entrance and patrons are strongly encouraged to use them. (although it isn't mandatory)
