This is why we have to fight tooth and nail against "for profit" medical care.

Totally agree. Healthcare is one of the few things that breaks capitalism that relies on consumer choice for healthy competition.

Often times patients do not have the luxury of choice or time to shop around for care as the alternative is death (hyperbolic but one can get the idea).

We're getting there, folks!  Keep wearing your masks, social distancing and washing your hands.  Not forever, just for now.

This is huge

"Canada signed a deal in September for 20 million doses to be delivered at the beginning of 2021, with the option of increasing the supply to 56 million doses."

What’s the storage temp of this vaccine? The Pfizer one being minus 80 means generally the people have to go to the vaccine whereas the Astrazenica one it’s ambient temperature for storage means it can be delivered to the patients which is more useful for the most vulnerable and isolated

From what I remember ...cold, but not as cold as the Pfizer...somewhere around -20 C

Another day, another record in the US.

If folks back home have any doubt what a bad public health response can look like, just look at the US.  Richest country with the most drugs and vaccines. It is social responsibility to each other and trust in medical experts that matters.  Misinformation spread by the leaders will result in this. And the worst is yet to come. We expect the peak in Jan. Canadians need to unite and fight this virus, and not eachother.

A 9/11 everyday for the last 2 weeks. And Trump is fighting over an election he lost. What a %$#@ing loser!

The mandate appears to be working, hopefully they see it needs to remain until everyone gets the vaccine.  An extra week, preferably two at the end of winter break would be ideal in this effort to flatten the curve going into January and February

Moderna's needs to be kept at minus four degrees for long-term storage but can be kept at around 40 degrees for 30 days

Quote

Shipping & Long-term Storage: For shipping and longer-term storage, Moderna expects that mRNA-1273 will be maintained at -20°C (-4°F), equal to most home or medical freezer temperatures, for up to 6 months. Using standard freezer temperatures of -20°C (range of -25° to -15°C or -13° to 5°F) is an easier and more established method of distribution and storage than deep freezing and most pharmaceutical distribution companies have the capability to store and ship products at -20°C (-4°F) worldwide.

Refrigeration Storage: After thawing, to facilitate storage at points of administration, Moderna expects that mRNA-1273 will remain stable at standard refrigerated conditions of 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F) for up to 30 days within the 6-month shelf life. The stability at refrigerated conditions allows for storage at most pharmacies, hospitals, or physicians’ offices.

Room Temperature for Vaccination: Once the vaccine is removed from the refrigerator for administration, it can be kept at room temperature conditions for up to 12 hours.

No Dilution Required at Vaccination Site: The vaccine will not require onsite dilution or special handling, which facilitates vaccination across a range of settings including pharmacies and physicians’ offices.

Don't know how much I agree with this...

Canmore junior hockey coach suspended, fined following news interviews about team outbreak

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/canmore-eagles-hockey-coach-suspended-covid-media-ajhl-1.5851914

Story is wierdly written.

I can't tell if the coach was suspended for violating the rules in place at the time, or for violating rules that were put in place after his talk with the media.

Either way looks bad on the League.

Has there been any updates regarding the warning Pfizer has for those with allergies??

With Moderna being approved, this gives those with allergies wary of the Pfizer vaccine another choice.

Except it likely contains the same ingredient:

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/12/suspicions-grow-nanoparticles-pfizer-s-covid-19-vaccine-trigger-rare-allergic-reactions

Quote

Severe allergy-like reactions in at least eight people who received the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech over the past 2 weeks may be due to a compound in the packaging of the messenger RNA (mRNA) that forms the vaccine’s main ingredient, scientists say. A similar mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna, which was authorized for emergency use in the United States on Friday, also contains the compound, polyethylene glycol (PEG).

Quote

Until we know there is truly a PEG [polyethylene glycol] story, we need to be very careful in talking about that as a done deal.

Preliminary data suggests that 2020 will exceed 3 million deaths.  400,000 more than 2019.  Remember when posters here asserted that there wasn't any real change in mortality in the US so therefore Covid-19 is a hoax.  What do ya say now?
