Popular Post Dr. Crossbar
100% happy with this. Especially knowing there was salary retained on OEL. He wants to be here, and that bodes well for him being rejuvenated and producing. Garland is the right age for the core and we'll be getting his best years in a new contract. Plus he's been consistently one of the Yotes top forwards. 4 points behind Kessel last year. Edited July 23, 2021 by Dr. Crossbar . 5 4

Popular Post JeremyCuddles
I am really surprised that so many people are this against the trade. We got a guy that has put up 20 goals (and was on pace to score pretty close to 20 goals in 2 other seasons) AND he's only 25 and we got a top 4 D-man. All it cost us 3 players nobody liked, 2 good draft picks and a who cares late draft pick. Two of the picks are in a pretty meh draft. Dude, I see this as a net win. Y'all complaining, you're wild. 9 4 1

He must be working in secret with Ron Francis. Chayka is seen as a moron by the analytics community. This is a weird straw man that you’re using to deflect because you can’t accept the fact that OEL isn’t a top pairing D anymore. This isn’t even some sort of advanced analytic. If you play against a team’s 4th line, you will have a low QOC. This isn’t rocket science.
Popular Post Xur
Our top pairing is QH and OEL. pinch me. I must be dreaming. This is the best day I have had being a canucks fan in 10 years. Wowowowow so happy. Is Benning single? I will marry him. Popular Post Gurn
Playing year after year in Arizona, on a team that wasn't good, can take something out of a player. Especially last season when they tried to move him, then kept him. OEL will have a better team, likely a better d partner, and a better goalie. Best yet, he will have hope, and that means a lot., 5 1

Benning Haters love saying how dumb he is but the upside and domino effect seems pretty smart to me. The situation Benning is in is simple, win. That is the mantra, he wins or he's fired. Most of assumed that in order to add a top pairing D a very good 3c and a more farther along, better right now Hoglander, it would take several buyouts cap dump trades, our 1st(s) Nate, etc etc. Instead in one trade when all is said and done walks out with maybe 2 million in cap space, I'm sure a very happy, motivated, top pair guy and Garland who instantly along with Dickenson and Podz completely changes our forward dynamic. Plus seeing what's being given for D that can play the right side or are at least ok top 4 makes me think he would get a 1st or better yet a decent prospect. Benning also can still make moves in free agency by simply making moves already rumoured by moving Nate for cap plus moving Holtby and Jake, freeing up 13 milluon. And even if in 3-4 years the cap hasn't gone up and OEL sucks, the buyout isn't terrible or for all we know LTIRed. No point worrying about 3-4 years from now, we are easily the most improved team with the 6 players joining so far in Podz, Rathbone, Joulevi, OEL, Garland and Jason.

Schmidt's likely gone, so we'll get some cap space, and/or roster players and/or draft picks. Holtby, we can either keep him, or we can trade him. Either way we still have an asset we can use. Buyout is a waste, but it could save us cap space if need be. All we need is to fill in the roster with cheapish players, which we have plenty of in the system. Guys like Macewen, Bailey, Gadjovich, etc all have a chance to make a solid contribution to this team. Fourth line - A cheap player, whether it be our farm team or UFA, we have space now. We're going to be just fine.

Seriously a 1st round pick for a d past his prime what were you thinking Benning! I’m responding to this post but really it is in response to all the posts with this narrative. I think what many with this thought process truly fail to comprehend is, try telling a group of 20 or so professionals to just “wait one more year” in a career that spans 5-10 years. Pretty sure I wouldn’t want to wait and waste a year as a player. All else aside, we are a much better team than we were 2 hours ago. I think the players will appreciate that. I like this house cleaning trade a lot and am stoked already. And who knows what else is going to transpire. Popular Post captainhorvat
I really feel OEL has much more left in the tank thn people think. He definitely checked out in his last few years in Arizona but we now get a motivated OEL playing for a team he wants to be a part of and I’m sure the Sedins were heavily involved in bringing him to Vancouver. 4 2 1 1
