I like Schenn. LOVE his physicality and leadership. Happy to have him back in a 6/7 role and occasional fill in with Hughes... But he can't really be THE guy to plunk next to Hughes for the next couple years, while we wait (hopefully) for Willander. He's not good or fast enough, and he isn't going to get better over the next two years.

Just think it's the smarter approach. This way we're not tying up cap space for potential upgrades. I think this would be a safe approach.

Top 4 RHD with leverage? Those numbers might start with an eight.

I rather leave that bottom pairing open for internal growth or Cal Foote. Then we have Jett Woo, if he can build on last year he could get a look the following year or callup.

If we magically have the cap for both, then we’ve achieved some unforeseen cap wizardry

Hughes at $10 million+ plus in 4 years. Where is the money coming from to fit all these guys? And where is Willander going to play, on the 3rd pairing? Why bother drafting a stud RHD who projects as a top pairing guy if you are just going to overpay for a 30 year old in free agency? If we were actually going to trade for Pesce, we should have drafted Matthew Wood instead... 28+1=29 Though I still wouldn't trade for him. mll
33 minutes ago, wildcam said: Sorry Pesce suppose to be minimum 6.5 million X 5 yrs -- The gap between Carolina and Pesce is reported to be significant - that's why he could be traded because they can't agree on an extension. 6.5 x 5 years seems rather reasonable. Severson just got 8x 6.25M when the cap is still flat. Pesce's new deal starts when there will be a clear rise to the cap.
JeremyCuddles
Finally a name I can actually get behind. Sign and trade, just not a 1st rounder. Tired of hearing about all these 3rd pair tweeners we're "interested" in. Gimme the big D. Giggity.

Sedintwinpowersactivate
I like Ian Cole as the best short term fit. Over 19 minutes last season. 1-2 year deal to play the left 2nd pair next to Hronek. PK. Already 34 years of age so how many affective years left?

Likely could use a cheaper scoring winger so beauviller would be in the deal. Maybe beauviller + raty + 2024 1st But we would have to be sure that we were contending. Raty is the only top end C prospect they have, trading him makes no sense.
billabong
https://www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/ start at 14:00 Essentially Pesce was given permission to talk to two other teams recently about an extension but couldn’t come to terms. Carolina may keep him for the time being, but after this season it looks like he’ll be moving on…at least at this point
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw
Yeah, he'll probably play out this season and walk. This is Carolina's year to win it all and everyone knows it. Unless they're in trouble at the deadline, it's not like they can acquire a better RHD by trading him away. Pesce will be on the move - in July.
