Popular Post Provost
That is some good job security for a fringe guy, low risk for Ottawa as well at that salary. 1

rekker
I liked Zach and I would of liked him on the fourth line here. At that number he could be buried in the minors at no cap hit if he gets beat out of a job. Nothing to lose sleep over though.
DrJockitch
We fill up our bottom 6 with UFAs and cast offs but when we develop our own we send them away ASAP.
Gawdzukes
Terrible at the hockey part of hockey. Good luck Ottawa. 1
JeremyCuddles
Gave up some potential cash for security. But he hasn't really etched out a legit niche in the NHL. Good deal for both sides imo. If he ends up in the AHL he stills gets good paydays for 3 years. Or if he sticks, Ottawa gets a physical depth guy for really cheap.
-AJ-
Good contract for both sides. He's a stretch when it comes to scoring or defense, but his physical game does provide value. The cheap contract means it's easy to work with and three years on a one-way deal provides great job security for MacEwen. 1
Popular Post Curmudgeon
Really happy for Zack. A straight ahead, no nonsense guy of limited ability but always plays like he'll never get another shift, so he goes flat out. Three years is a just reward for a guy who made the NHL though sheer hard work and persistence. I hope he find a regular spot in Ottawa's lineup. 6 1
canucklehead44
He showed some skill early with the 52 points in 69 games followed by 5 goals in 17 nhl games but his offense dropped off a cliff after that. Solid physical guy, hard worker. Probably the most successful guy we developed in the minors during the Benning era

Zack’s a great guy but he’s not gonna elevate the team to new heights. Not even with a limited role in the bottom 6. Wish him all the best in Ottawa. 1
DownUndaCanuck
Surprised to see he's survived in the NHL for so long since leaving us. I guess big body and he plays with a mean streak but honestly he doesn't bring much else - isn't a great PKer and brings zero offence. Teams must be sucked in by his size. -DLC-
Good on him, I know they loved him in Philly for his willingness to go to bat. Broadstreet bully kind of guy. Also think his Mom's awesome so I wish them both the best of luck. Will always be in their corner.

VforVasili
Big Mac in Ottawa is awesome news. My second team picks up a player I really liked. Not a guy who sets the world on fire but love his grit and hard work. 1
EdgarM
Despite what many think is a dying breed, the tough and physical players are still being sought after by some NHL teams. Many of the big names who possess offensive flash get all of the limelight, but the checkers, PKers and those who generally make life tougher for the opposition, rarely get the accolades they deserve. I am glad for Mac and I wish him all the best.
