  1. Dan Murphy and Elliote Friedman reporting there are no more positive tests for the Canucks, they are en route to San Jose

      Ghostsof1915

      It's 5:21pm.

They sure better get the results in.

  2. Frank Seravalli reporting that Derek Clancey has emerged as the Vancouver Canucks target for the assistant GM position. Clancey was Jim Rutherfords Director of Player Personnel in Pittsburgh.

    1. Nucker 67

      Nucker 67

Clancey is currently a Flames pro scout, would be nice to poach one of theirs. Take that Treliving!

    2. Canucks Curse

      Canucks Curse

their pro scouting is party good - Hannifin, lindholm, tanner, markstrom,

their cap management from my perspective has been pretty good, also they stole that 2nd rounder from us in the beartschi trade, which never really panned out for us and they drafted Andersson, some one we really could have used.

  3. As per Aaron Portzline, Patrik Laine will meet the Columbus Blue Jackets in Vancouver late tonight or early Monday

And will probably play vs the Canucks, this is a pretty huge development as Columbus gets another weapon back in time for that game in Vancouver

      We have them worried.

good, he'll be rusty and slow. Maybe pouty too.

  4. Word this evening Marc Bergevin is out as a candidate for the vacant GM position in Vancouver, nothing on Laurence Gilman either but a name that's really heating up is Jason Boterill who is the assistant coach down in Seattle, stay tuned

New style of GM doesn't work.  Old school hockey people please.  Gilman's experience was under Gillis and Dubas, both of whom are absolute morons.

I’m firmly in the anyone but the b’s camp. Just say no to Botteril and Bergevin! These are the only two candidates that would cause me to doubt the selection of JR as PoHOps.

    4. Mike Vanderhoek

      Mike Vanderhoek

Mellanby may be worth a try if you have to go new but if you could snag Lombardi out of Philly oh man.

  5. Was sitting in row 5 tonight right next to the Canucks bench, right from pregame warmups to the end of the game Bruce Boudreau looked confident and quiet while Scottie Walker was very engaged and seemed to voice his opinions, everything will come together! GO CANUCKS GO!!!

    1. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

I got a really good impression from Boudreau after watching his introductory presser and I've always been a huge fan of Scott Walker.   This could be an early Christmas gift for Canucks fans.

  6. I'm happy for Canucks fans tonight

      Of course you did.

  7. I still think the Canucks get into the playoffs, Travis won't be here but the team will start clicking, also, Vegas will miss the playoffs, loss of Marc Andre Fleury is too much, Canucks have too much talent to miss

Travis' coaching has been exposed. And no, he's not going to get 'picked up' in a heartbeat, contrary to media pundits. He has such a poor coaching record over the course of his career. There is no way he'll become this 'elite' coach. There is no proof of this happening.

    3. Devron

      Devron

I like your optimism. Unfortunately until we change coaches the odds are pretty much zero. We have a slight chance to go on a run with a new coach

I don't trust anyone in the Canucks organization to make any good decisions.

If anything, Babcock could be the new head coach of the Canucks in a few days. Personally, I don't think it'll happen, because isn't Babs still being paid by the Leafs? Why would he turn down free money to coach a team that is in distress and turmoil?

I think the more realistic approach will be that Brad Shaw will be promoted to interim head coach.

    3. Nucker 67

      Nucker 67

Maybe Travis flew in for the dinner to meet with Babcock - arranged by the Aqualinis. "Please Mike, help. I don't know how to get the players to respect me. I've lost the room"

@Chickenspear I thought he was defacto GM of the team since 2014?:P

We don't need to bulk up entirely, but yeah it would be nice to get one or two big bodies in.

Big Regina does look beatable tho, and the guys took the punishment to get it done.

Indeed @Dazzle, & then his lil' scandal - which inspired a reference

    3. Canucks_fo_life

      Canucks_fo_life

LOL omg you guys act like Joel Quennville is some sort of monster who killed like hundreds of people, he kept quiet about some situation he didnt want any part of and kept quiet, this doesnt change the fact this guy wins wherever he coaches. Look, I want to win a Stanley Cup, he wins, thats all that matters, you make the bold move, or you choose not to see your team win their first Stanley Cup in your lifetime. End of story

    4. Odd.

      Odd.

I rather not see a Stanley Cup win by us than to see us win a Cup with a coach who allowed a player of his to be sexually assaulted multiple times by his fellow colleague and keeping it under wraps at the expense of keeping the team “morale” together.

  11. If you can't score powerplay goals, atleast kill off penalties, otherwise it doesn't matter how good you play 5 on 5

  12. Almost everyone has the Canucks in a top 3 spot in the division, I say they possibly get 1st or 2nd, with Vegas regressing, the loss of Marc-Andre Fleury will be bigger than people think. Edmonton and Vancouver will finish ahead of Vegas

I hate to say it but im not holding my breath that the Canucks will finish ahead of Vegas in the standings. They are the clear favourites.

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

I put my money where my mouth was when BCLC was paying out 2.25 for them to make the playoffs.  The RFA extensions seem to have lowered those odds a bit.

    4. Alflives

      Alflives

Totally agree with the OP.  Canucks are going to be real good.  Vegas fans will stop going to games.  Their team will become meaningless losers.

  13. Latest on Quinn Hughes contract, hearing 8 mill but not the term, hope it's for 7 years or so if that's the case. Last week it was a 6.95 mill deal at 5 years, sounds like price jumped bigtime and they're going back and forth, very fluid situation, also still nothing on Elias Pettersson contract

@cripplereh Nah. Canucks_fo_life clearly states he knows nothing about the Elias Pettersson contract. If you've been following his status updates, you'd also know that he has only been posting about Hughes' side. I think there's more money to be freed by Benning, especially the obvious AHL signings. I think we have more than 10 million in space, contrary to what capfriendly says.

      Where are u hearing this?

    4. cripplereh

      cripplereh

we have about 13.5 mill to spend at this point, but both EP and Hughes should with that be signed.I do believe the twins be apart of the canucks will make a difference with how much players get as they did take less to make sure the team could win.

  14. Hearing Quinn Hughes and Canucks close are to a 6 year contract with a 6.95 mill AAV, not finalized, nothing on Pettersson just yet

Is Hughes waiver eligible still? I thought that his salary would be right around there so we can maximize LTIR by papering him down then putting Ferland on LTIR and then calling Quinn back up right after. I wasn't sure if I had that right though. We shall see.

  15. Word this evening that the framework for Pettersson and Hughes contracts have been agreed upon from both camps and the Canucks, still work to be completed but the hardest part is done. Announcement expected middle of next week. Source is well known around Lower Mainland, doesn't wanna be named just yet

Totally speculating, but it sounds like the source is Rick Dhaliwal, but I wouldn't be able to elaborate on that.

  16. Sportsnets John Shannon was on Sekeres and Price podcast today and said both Pettersson and Hughes could be 8 year deals

  18. Guaranteed, the biggest signing this offseason for the Canucks won't be on the ice, it already happened and it's behind the bench. Brad Shaw, a defensive specialist will turn the Canucks into a perennial playoff team. His past teams have been top 10 in PK, and his teams shots against also low, meaning less of a workload for Demko. Columbus media calling this a "steal" for Vancouver. He has also molded the likes of Pietrangelo, Seth Jones, Parayko to name a few, I'm stoked for 2021-2022!

@hammertime I would think this is a learning experience for Baumer. Shaw being the specialist he will have influence for sure over other things not just the PP. No way he came here just to run the PP.

I disagree, I enjoyed what it was when it was but now it's akin to people demanding they bring back Holiday. I view it as being tethered to nostalgia and would prefer to attach some other song to this young, rising team. I imagine it'll happen organically over the next 4-5 years if it's to happen at all.
