[Rumour] Things have turned sour in the RNH contract negotiations

Recommended Posts

Elliott Friedman reports on the contract negotiations of Oilers RNH. They have gone sideways. Would be worth a look to see what he is seeking for a contract. Can be our 2c or 3c or winger fills a huge hole where ever. 6.5 million would be nice and unlike sam Reinhart it costs no picks or players.

not surprising that they are squeezing the 'nuge. Yes they have 22 mil in cap space, but once you re-sign Larsson to 5+, then nuge for 6ish, then a real starting goalie, and then more d and F depth the Oilers are not better than they were last year.

this is an important point. But how to we make the cap space?

Would we be a better team signing Nuge, then trading Miller for an actual top pairing d? (assuming a good fit was out there)

Nuge was over-paid at $6mil. He is soft, best suited to the wing and is a good player, not great. IMO he is worth a maximum of five million for a maximum of five seasons.

This guy gets it. He's also a PP specialist, and there really isn't any room for him on the first unit.

Pass unless we can sign him around 5 mil. He's a good player if we can get him on a bargain deal but don't think there is such thing as bargain UFA, well unless the player wants to come home like Dan Hamhuis, Willie Mitchell.

We have two major holes to fill in 3C and RD as well as smaller holes to fill on the bottom 6.

Miller-EP-Boeser

Pearson-Bo-Hog

Motte-3C-Podkolzin

Highmore-4C-4RW

If we spend 6 mil on RNH to fill 3C, that takes away money to fill the rest of the roster.

Ideally, we are looking for a 3C at around 4 mil (Sutter money) and look to re-sign Sutter (or equivalent player) at around 2 mil to replace Beagle (LTIR).

4RW can be filled from within (Graovac can be moved to wing or Lind may take a step).

Wonder if the Oilers would move on from him to fit in two $3-$4 million dollar wingers (the Pens have 2 wingers in Kapanen and Rust, and also Carter who's a valuable depth guy this season, making around $3 million).  Of course it would be great for him to get Guentzel money again but they don't really have the forward depth to pay him as a William Nylander depth scorer type if they don't have another higher end winger they can put at the top of the lineup so that they can split up McD and Leon.  Though Kassian, Puljujarvi and Yamamoto (who's also RFA) had solid seasons, they also have Neal already signed for $5.75 million so could they afford another big price tag winger in RNH if he's not a game-breaking guy who can really help Leon and McD?  That would be my question.

Canucks will develop their own top six and bottom six forwards.  The young Canucks defensemen will be firing  tape passes to the forwards.  It's a slow process, the sky is falling crowd needs to understand.   In 3-4 years, JB will be adding the support players who will help the Canucks go far in the playoffs.

Nuge scored 35 points this year playing with McDavid.

Something ain't adding up, wasn't working...

On Edm, is he a first or second unit PP specialist?  Cuz if he is on the 1st, how much of his "specializing" comes from having McD and Drai out there too?

I've never been a fan of his.  He already makes 6M per, and is in his prime earning stage of his career, is it time for a pay cut?  Of course, his lower production this year might suggest a cut, who knows.  I hope JB passes on this opportunity.
