Time to change the saying to "Lightning doesn't strike 3x". Impressive to see too that the Avs beat the Lightning by playing their stifling style.

Has anyone done social media fasts before (or quit outright)? Curious to hear about its benefits

This is the only site for communication. Guess I take it to the extreme - don't even have an IPhone!
Concerned all this speed/convenience isn't good for humanity, in general. Of course, living abroad it can be(& often is) a lifeline for many.
Maybe as Clapton sang.."It's In The Way That You Use It"?
Often think back(& badly miss) the way folks were in the 1970's & 80's..kinder, gentler.. seemingly less stressed.
Correlation/causation? Don't know...

Crazy, if TB wins the Cup this season, Steph and Pat Maroon will have the same number of championships but it'll take Pat even fewer years to win so many #GOAT

Would Canucks fans have interest in bringing in Tyson Barrie? (On the pretense that we can move Tyler Myers, e.g. trade him to Dallas since Klingberg might price himself out when they need to re-sign Oettinger/ Robertson and replace Radulov who's UFA).
I'm thinking OEL - Barrie could be a good pairing since Tyson's got the mobility we need, and OEL can be the shutdown guy on this pair. Barrie at $4.5 * 2 years. -
If Edmonton called Allvin to trade a 1st for Demko, would you do it?

Así es la vida, sí
Yeah that's just life, baby -
Daters/ relationship folks on CDC, before tying the knot how often do/ did you see your partner and (how) do you maintain independence while part of a couple?

Shodoshima was magical for my family - we accidentally chose it, and it turned out to be so much fun as it was an unexpected, relaxing change of pace to modern and fast Japan. First of all, the island is beautiful - you get the beach and the mountains. I recommend watching the movie Twenty-Four Eyes before going there. Once in Shodoshima, visit the set for the movie. Definitely go and spend time with the wild monkeys - try feeding them and experience them jumping all over you! Walking on Angel Road was pretty cool as you can access the smaller island only on low tide. Go to Shodoshima Oliver Park and take pictures with the beautiful architecture as well as jumping on a broomstick kinda like the Studio Ghibli anime Kiki's Delivery Service.

@Phil_314...different places for different reasons.
When I was single, I loved the Caribbeans (Nassau, Bahamas and Cancun, MX were my favorites in my 20's and 30's - there is amazing warm scuba water diving available, if you like those kind of activities).
Since I've been married, Munich, Costa del Sol, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Naples have been some of our favorite spots. Also, I used to travel to South Africa and Namibia on business a quarterly basis, and cities like Cape Town are very interesting (dangerous in certain parts, but safe for the most part). Victoria Falls where Namibia, Bostwana, Zimbabwe and Zambia meet is one of the most amazing places I've been. And if you make your way to southern parts of Africa, you owe it to yourself to go on a safari with big game cats and all kinds of wildlife. We used to have a uranium exploration camp along the Orange River separating Namibia from S. Africa and wandering into our camps were baboons, zebras, kudo, cheetahs, and the like. Andes Mountain range in Argentina/Bolivia/Chile is amazing...if you go, make sure you carry oxygen with you (nearly died at 15,000 ft elevation when I was looking at some lithium salars in Argentina back in 2011). If you love steak, nothing is better than Argentine beef (and the Argentine women may be some of the most beautiful women in the world). And I second Kyoto as a must-visit in Japan...my favorite city in Japan for their cherry blossoms, temples, hospitality. Cleanest city I have ever visited.
My local faves - Boston (sorry fellow Canucks fans), Chicago (sorry Canucks fans), Los Angeles (sorry Canucks fans), New York (sorry Canucks fans), San Francisco, Seattle and South Beach (though South Beach was when I was younger).
We have extended family vacation homes at Mammoth Lakes, La Jolla and Hawaii, and my wife and I have a place in Las Vegas off the strip so these are places we end up when traveling (which I like to do less and less with every passing year). The kid in me still loves Disneyland and with the arrival of our newborn son, we'll probably be making regular trips back the happiest place on earth in five years time. So add Anaheim to the list. And if you've never been up north, Alaska and Yukon Territories are spectacular places to visit (especially in the summer when you get 23.5 hours of daylight). Nothing like teeing off at 10 PM for a quick round of golf.
I hope this helps.

These travel stories rejuvenate my passport vigor.
Phil I rented a motorbike in Hanoi and travelled all around. Amazing fun zipping up the Ha Giang mountain ranges and I'll go back to do it again one day with some friends who became interested once I regaled them with tales. English is spoken in cities, but I like languages so learned enough food and barter words to get by in rural areas and was always welcomed. Hell I was walking around Ha Giang with my friend looking for a morning ca fe za da when a family yelled at me (in Vietnamese I did not understand) to come over and greet them. You know, the hands and elbows pumping towards the chest and face in "come here" fashion.
Once I crossed the road and saw what they had I knew what was up. They had pulled a jackfruit off their tree in the backyard and were about to crack it open and wanted to share it with us. Sat there for an hour conversing in broken languages translated by my friend over a fresh fruit breakfast where the sap is so sticky your lips almost glue shut, but the fruit is absolutely delicious, and they made me a coffee.
You just can't buy experiences like that, and that's why I love to travel.
Bigbad: great tales man. Argentina women and picana beef are top 5 things to love. But hey, there are lovely people and women everywhere, but the picana is unique. Senegal was always on my list since much of the flavours of southern food I like originated there. You didn't list it so I assume you have not been?
Also, Vinny, I gotta second Kyoto. Shabu shabu please.
Such a fantastic little city with an amazing little food market and amazing temples to check out. I'm not even Buddhist, I just like having a tea and walking the gardens. @Nuxfanabroad

Hey CDC, any cafe recommendations in Vancouver? Looking to try different places, either just to hangout or get some work done (been to La Foret and Nemesis recently).

Sweet! Thanks @J.I.A.H.N, might actually be visiting Nanaimo sometime this spring
-
@Odd. big fan of Breka and their 24 hour service (fun fact, they were the last spot I went to before the world shut down in Mar 2020).

Didn't think I'd see the day Canada's men qualified for the World Cup, then again there are restaurants in Vancouver called "Flying Pig" so anything is possible #goodjobboys #GoCanada

Prediction game: where does Dadonov go? (name the team he ends up on); bonus points for naming the return. ANDDD... go!

One Travis in, one Travis out -- balance has been restored and all is good in Canuck Nation.

After the local removal of Covid gathering procedures, I wonder how long it'll be before case numbers rebound...

@TNucks1 it is, but no more seating restrictions or limits on group/ event sizes. Gotta think that even if 1 or a few people are asymptomatic, if they attend a big event, there's a good chance some people catch it and so it spreads again.

Blindfolded Dodgeball Zegras. That is all. #Showstopper

Wonder if Edmonton would trade for Aaron Dell after signing Evander Kane? #AllCharacterTeam

@Chickenspear thanks for the update.
News like that got me thinking, how messed up it is that a guy who got bought out as a punitive measure would have a choice as to which suitor he would play for. I get it that hockey is a business but news like that would only feed into his entitlement as a player, if not an individual.

Actual question, is it considered close contact if the person gets sick and gets confirmed for COVID after you met with them IRL? (I get that it's better safe but hoping to confirm what expectations there are in cases like this, esp. if I don't have any symptoms and am not sick)

Saw the Convention Center vax lineup photos... was anyone in line? (Glad I can't get my shot for at least another month)

I'm gonna let the whole thing blow over for a few weeks. I'm sure I'm not even eligible yet but I'd rather wait and not have to deal with the crazy lineups.
BCIT site for tests and vaccinations has been a parking lot that extends around multiple blocks. It's been like that for last three weeks at least.

Any avid snowboarders on here? Looking to price my used board with bindings and had some questions about that

Would you feel more helpless defending McDavid or Mario if you were the last man back? (Wonder if you'd rather get blown by due to 97's breakneck speed or get deked into oblivion with Mario's wingspan and get fended off, knowing that you won't be able to get the puck from 66)

Maybe David Booth should have been a defenseman then @J.I.A.H.N

Read the new restrictions for players just now. I get that it's for safety and all, but the league is basically enforcing masks and distancing, plus no going out to eat or Christmas party; at least for us regular folk we can have smaller-scale gatherings.

@VancouverHabitant that's reasonable to assume. I think Dr. BH's words today at 130 will receive the same amount of respect ("don't do ______" without actual enforcement, par for the course).

Anyone know if Trinity Street still does their block-wide Christmas decorations? Haven't heard anything about it this year but they typically do such a fantastic job.
-
Trinity? In Burnaby? One of my best friends as kids lived on Trinity, I lived on Cambridge Street!
This was my house: https://www.redfin.ca/bc/burnaby/4315-Cambridge-St-V5C-1H3/home/155519797
It looks small now - but it was bigger than the others that used to be around it!

Just what the doctor ordered, coach is the Bruce-ter shot this team has needed. 2-0 record baby!

Christmas came early this season... the Green-ch can't steal anymore games with his line blending (I'm meh towards Benning, he makes some good signings).
