Ya, fifth round picks always turn teams right around during their first few games in NHL (IF they make NHL).   Happens every time.   

its like OCD, sometimes you have to let people just go through the process. Hopefully this is the final year for a good while people are openly wanting to tank.

We have a goaltending tandem of Markstrom and Nilsson. Where did people think we were going to finish?

Whomever we draft this year is not the savoir. That is Demko. If he doesn't pan out we are really in a tough spot. 

Accept it and feel great, but keep expectations low. 

somehow i don't think it will happen, but if it does do not expect the 1st overall pick, there's an 82% chance that won't happen even for the last place team. 

It would be sweet if Canucks got him. If he doesn't sign with the Islanders my guy feeling is he'll go to Montreal.

Vanek's value reminds me of Vrbata's value last season. He ended up with 55 points while on a 1 year, $1 million contract, but the Coyotes couldn't find a trading partner for him partly because of how lousy his career playoff track record was.

Most of us probably had higher hopes for a Vanek trade, but what the Canucks got was still better than nothing and enough that it doesn't set a precedent for accepting low-value returns going forward.

he doesn't have the same reputation for leadership, locker room, guy etc. fair or not. Plus he's slow as ****.

Vanek is seen as more of a specific power play tool imo, so that may be why.

I could be enticed if it was on the lower end towards 7. I don't see him play enough to really make a call but I am weary of the stat padding he would get by playing in front of Holtby and behind Ovie et al. That being said he is still the best UFA dman... if he makes it to July 1.

I'll admit that I don't to to Reddit enough to have a terribly informed opinion on them over there. Twitter I rarely see as well, but I assume it's much like Facebook, which I do see. The HFBoards is just a cesspool of all our banned users.

r/canucks from what I can tell is pretty fairly balanced, although most of the upvoted posts tend to favour Benning. There are people there that are more critical of JB, but there's a far better balance of opinions on Reddit than on HFBoards, where almost everyone is just incessantly negative.

In terms of Benning's favourability, I'd rank them as follows (from positive to negative):

CDC > Reddit > Twitter/Facebook > HFBoards

@-AJ- I would argue Twitter is even worse than Facebook. If you say something someone doesn’t agree with they’ll have their followers pretty much attack you. 

Because we can set the bar higher and show respect as fans of hockey, not just our team.  I hate the way the Sedins have been treated...but those guilty of this just show themselves as uneducated hicks.  Anyone with half a brain respects what the Sedins have done in this league.  Sadly, some are running on less than that.

What do other teams fans have anything to do with whether or not we respect their player?  I have tons of respect for tons of players, I don't have respect for other teams fans (Boston specifically comes to mind).  I have lots of buddies in the prairies with whom I trade barbs with over wins and losses, but we don't spend time trashing players on the teams, because we understand how hard it is to receive and maintain an NHL contract.

He is day-to-day with back spasms.  Green already said last night that he won't be able to play.

IR is minimum 7 days so they probably prefer not making use of it in case he can come back earlier.  There is also no reason to as they have an extra D available.

I've never heard his name before this but he's 19 yrs old, 5'10'' and 147lbs in his 2nd WHL season. He's matched his last season total in half the games. Compared to Kole Lind (who is in his 3rd WHL season), Aleksi is 3 months younger, and was picked 7 spots later in the 2017 draft. They have similar games played and goals for, the main difference in points between them (85 vs 58) being that Aleksi has 25 more assists.

Aleksi's team (the Broncos) have only scored 8 more goals for the season (185 vs 177) than Lind's team (the Rockets). Therefore, along with a crazy point streak (the last 26 of his 34 gp) he's involved in 45% of his team's goals.

Fun fact: The last team Aleksi failed to get a point against 27 games ago? The Vancouver Giants.

And he’s 147 pounds.  He’s currently playing against boys.

We pretty much lost our entire top six due to overage/graduation. Popugaev went back home to Russia, terrible goaltending etc., I can’t tell you how many games Tavin Grant has blown for us. 

maybe, if their goaltending can hold up.

I'd rather just wait for our prospect pool to blossom. We are looking fine for forwards. Defense is a more dire need.

Kane yes if the $/term are not over 7 per and 5 years. Nash is too old and in decline, maybe a 1 year deal as TDL bait? nothing more than that tho. I'd rather see the Sedins back on a bargain 1 year deal than Nash.
