The last important and meaningful games OEL played were in the bubble.  In those 9 games he had 5 points, played 23 minutes/night, and had 30 hits.  The guy was a monster.

Incredibly consistent.  He has also been one of the top 20 hitters for defenseman in the last 4 years.  He is only 30.  Alex Edler is 35.  Alec Martinez is 34 and just signed a 3 year 5 million deal. 

 

I think OEL is our new and improved Edler and I am super pumped about him being on the team.

 

The media decided a long time ago to make Benning the whipping boy.  He has assembled a very exciting core drafted without a single player in the top 3, despite a lot of losing.  Demko 36th, Boeser 23rd, EP 5th, Hughes 7th, Podkolzin 10, Hoglander 40, Rathbone 95th.  He was left a pile of excrement with old players with NTC's and Brendan Gaunce and Jordan Subban.  He had to try to build a winner around the last years of the Sedins which was very difficult with nothing to trade.  He made some mistakes in FA and trades, but look at all the other GM's and analyze every transaction.  He has now made the Miller, Pearson, Schmidt, and Motte trades.  He now has Highmore, Dickinson, OEL, and Garland.  

 

I think we are better and deeper than any team in Canada except for maybe Montreal.  I can't wait to see what other additions JB makes and for the season to start.  

 

I say all of this because I am a "fan" of the team.  I am critical, but not a critic.

Gotta say, EKMAN-LARSSON on the back of a Canucks sweater will look real good.  

 

I'd say, right now, in a weaker Pacific division, the Canucks will be a playoff team next season.  The next couple of moves could really improve the team, defensively. Adding OEL is good, and re-signing Hamonic too, but they need more on D. More size and snarl please.

I get it with the media.  What I don't get is the over-the-top negative, miserable attitude of some on CDC.

 

I am a fan of hockey as an escape.  I like to feel part of something.  I like hockey.  I feel a bit like a kid again.  I get to talk passionately about something that doesn't actually affect me.  But most of all, sports are unpredictable and fun.  Why someone would choose to crap all over the team that they cheer for as entertainment is beyond me?

 

There just seems to be a very unhealthy obsession from some with being cynical and pessimistic about something they choose to do for fun.

Exactly. People need to stop tuning in to the one note style of sports journalism that the majority of clowns in Vancouver offer.

 

Fans would do themselves a favor by looking at the team with some objectivity rather than the innate bitterness that seemingly permeates so much of how the team and organization is perceived. The team is already considerably better than they were a month ago, and free agency is coming up in a couple of days. AND Brad Shaw is on the coaching staff.

 

What is not to like about the Canucks present situation? Nothing really. I'm excited for the season to start.

A lot of fans lack objectivity because they do not follow other NHL teams to acquire wider perspectives. A lot of fans also never worked in industries that exposed them to risk assessment and risk management, strategic decision makings, corporate hierarchies and communications. Then again, I find fans in general know more about hockey than voters know about politics and policies. The average fan is still way more knowledgeable than the average voter

I think that the fans are alright, they are passionate, sometimes negative, sometimes silly but for the most part the majority love their team. 

 

The media however has become complete trash.

 

People do need to stop tuning in to send them a message, but I wonder if there is any thing else that can be done to let them know that they are losing the true core of the fanbase?

 

My idea is slaps to the face.
