It's hard to say really. Islanders currently hold the last wild card spot and, if they somehow make a deeper run to the playoffs than the Leafs, Canucks get a later 1st round pick. Plus the 2nd and 3rd are more tradable assets than a prospect Islanders gave up on

Only if NYI makes it to the conference finals and Toronto doesn't.  If Toronto loses in round 1 but NYI makes it to round 2 it wouldn't change the draft order.

Draft order for the teams eliminated in the 1st 2 rounds is determined by the points at the end of the regular season (with the divisional winners losing in round 1 or 2) coming after that group.  NYI and Toronto not likely to win their divisions anymore and NYI not likely to catch up to Toronto.

as yeah good point. though there's that other possibility. NYI has made it to the conference finals twice in the last 3 years

I always hated that rule.1st tes out in the first round should falling order of games played.

Team gets swept they are ahead in the draft then any team going 5 games and so on.

That isy feeling on it.

Great way to circumvent the rules.

75% retained

if that was van the league would make a new rule and punish them for it.

they  should have got one more team involved got 100% retained

Quite impressive how much you've got wrong in such a short post. Two teams can retain up to 50% on one contract, it probably shouldn't be allowed but it is and has been used many times before. Three teams is against the rules, but even if it wasn't that would be 87.5% retained.

O'Reilly's salary is 1M this season (rest was bonus) with only ~30% left to pay.   The Wild pick up 75K in salary and 1.875M cap hit.

@mll i was a bit perplexed by the deal at first glance. It seemed like Minny got hosed on the deal. But if that is the transaction then it makes good sense.

Burn some cap that you have for 75K for a free pick, well played I say

It’s why this deal won’t matter.

They’re even with Tampa up from now but the Lightning have far superior D and goaltending.

Last year that was a better series than the final.   About as even as any series has been as far as every metric goes in a long time.    Not saying COL wouldn't have beat them anyways because they would have.     TB's experience ... held through.   For sure they have the goaltending, huge part why they won two cups.   O'Reilly line versus Horvats line was something to watch.    They can lose a key guy now.   TO's last chance really, they should know that.    Man the East is better than the West aside from a couple teams.

Nice work STL. Realizing what you are and going from all in on playoffs to 3 first and multiple 2nds and 3rds. I see the typical horvat supporters getting distracted by quantity though which isn't surprising.

13th is still worth more than a 28th + 56th + 70.

Abramov and Raty are both projects but the C is more valuable.

We also gained Beau who is matching Bos production on long Island and someone we will flip for even more assets next TDL.

Minni has no wiggle room and borderline playoff team.. Are they packing it in and going to sell now that they used up valuable capspace for a late 4th?

3 words: first round exit.

Yup. "ROR will play all the hard defensive matchups". OK? The Leafs are going to play their 3rd line for 23mins a night now and only give 17/18min to JT and Matthews lines while they also have to deal with the hardest defensive matchups? He's closer to washed than cup run beast as well... That was 4 years ago.

they'll be crushed by the expectations and fall apart.

Yup. Leafs will win the Cup this year. They are just too good, especially now.

I expect a 2 hour Special Report on the Toronto Sports Network. This trade will certainly give the Laffers the Cup. May as well shut down the rest of the season and start the parade. I hope the Habs smoke TO tonight.

Tank on!

Ror is 32 and declining asset blues did good to dump him.

if he can stay heathy he help the laughs depth. But he’s at that age where injuries are far more frequent.

He’s a good third liner but a bit slow

blues were  lucky he wasn’t  locked in till he’s 37.
his next contract won’t be 7.5 per.

he’s was listed as one of the 5 players to avoid this deadline

In this article.
