They could literally do it today and Boston could gun for the playoffs with a 1-2 punch of Bergeron and Miller.

Coyle and Miller both make exactly 5.25M. Lysell would be in the AHL and wouldn't count against the cap.

I'd take the seaplane over just to drive Miller to the airport.

This could be our one and only chance to get that young RHD we so desparately need in our system.  I don't know if we can deal a big piece like Miller and not require that in the package.

He just said someone's political affiliation should never be used to 'ruin their credibility' etc etc.

...then he references SPECIFICALLY people from a certain political spectrum. It's this apparent polarization that makes him such a hypocrite here.

  7. New management = old tricks.

The people who claim about Benning should be complaining about the lack of bold moves.

Like JM has said. Patience. I will wait until management moves it’s first big piece. Not going to get my hopes up with anything though, been disappointed too much.

It does suck seeing Ducks get all those picks though.

We did the safe thing, nothing.  Either you blow it all up or you retool on the fly.  We did neither.  Haven't done anything all year to help the boys with a playoff push since JR took over.  Don't think the boys and Boudreau are too happy about things.

  8. We are so close to the magic 4th spot. With the exact same roster, we were so far down the standings under Green.

Really says a lot about how awful of a coach Green was since we’re playing at this high of a level under Boudreau.

    3. Devron

      Devron

Gonna keep tooting my horn but I’ve said from the beginning of the season that this was a good team and actually fairly well built. There was something wrong and obviously it was a culture that started with green

Imagine predicting(Oct 13th) that Green gets canned, in-season, yet we climb all the way to 2nd in Div.?

Should the puck gods permit, I've got a thread to bump. :^)

  9. In the SJ game, the Canucks extended their winning streak to 6, scored by

Boeser (6) x2 times. Boudreau is 66 years old.

Question for all those who think Green is a good coach:. What aspect of his job did he demonstrate he is capable of performing at an acceptable standard?

    3. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@Mike Vanderhoek But that's the thing though. There IS a double standard in play here. Benning was already well-criticized for his performance as a GM by the fifth season. That didn't seem to stop people from sparing him more criticism just because he had a poor record/disappointing start, did it?

Likewise, just because Benning didn't work here doesn't mean he should get so much hate, right? Yet that's not what the media has been pushing. They've been arguing that the Canucks D core is terribly set up by Benning, and that Green had apparently done a great job making the best of the situation. I believe that is a complete fabrication though. Green is NOT a rookie coach. People talk about how good he was in the bubble. So how is he a rookie coach undeserving of criticism on his coaching, while earning praise for him being a "good coach"? That's not how it works.

    4. warrchief

      warrchief

When he complained about the roster, that's when I lost all respect for him. It was obvious that it was his systems that weren't working and how they were always on the heels.

A good coach gets the most out of his players, a bad one complains about it.

  11. Remember when some people here thought Lou Lam was the definition of a good GM?

Threw away picks for LITERALLY nothing. Now look at their record...

    1. Rubik

      Rubik

let me just ignore the fact that this team has made it to the conference finals two years in a row, taking the eventual sc champions to game 6/7, and instead focus on the first quarter of the new season where they've opened with a 13-game road trip and have been hit hard with covid and injuries. that's much more telling of how the team is built

    2. Mike Vanderhoek

      Mike Vanderhoek

Lou Lamorello is only one of the greatest General Manager in NHL history, aside from post season successes going deep multiple times he has won 3 Stanley Cups, Gold as U.S General Manager at the Olympics, and two GM of the Year awards. He is essentially a legend in terms of NHL builders and to top it off he had never played in the NHL nor was a part of the game prior to getting into it.

Those " some " people you speak of would be not only NHL wide admiration for the guy but other sports take notice as well due to his methodical running of his clubs like a fine oiled machine.

But yeah those Islanders started out slow so........

    3. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@Mike Vanderhoek People on here were praising LouLam for short term success, while blatantly ignoring the prices he had to pay to do it. Now that the Islanders are regressing (just like we were), those people praising LouLam have largely quieted, but they've probably shifted into re-bashing Benning again.

  12. Sorry, I don't understand why Green wasn't let go earlier.

I don’t think Rathbone has been bad at all to be honest (except for last night).  I just don’t know what one can realistically expect if he’s being fed bottom pairing minutes.

Will say this though:  Podkolzin and Rathbone in Abbotsford will definitely lead to sell outs over in Abby.  Podz, Bone, and Klimovich leading the way down there to a championship may not be the worst thing in the world?

    3. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@Patel Bure If you go back to the other games (minus tonight), you'll generally see that Rathbone is outmuscled by other forwards. This is a bad thing when you are being sheltered as much as he is. In short, for the limited minutes, he should not be a defensive liability at all, which I think he is.

That's why I think he should be in the AHL so he can play meaningful minutes, and he can gain the confidence while playing in that same league. Right now, he's potentially costing Canucks games. The breakaway last night + the overskating on the same play show that he's letting guys pass him. This is not just a one game thing. Moreover, he's not actually producing here.

    4. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

Hilarious how last month, a few people were ready to pack Quinn Hughes’ bags while anointing Rathbone as our 2nd pairing LD guy.

    3. bigbadcanucks

      bigbadcanucks

@Dazzle - I hate phukker$ like Diamond.  It's too bad that Dhaliwal fell for Diamond's BS chatter about Tryamkin.  That hurt Dhaliwal's credibility, which is too bad because IMO, he is one of the most connected and trusted media types with the Agent fraternity.

Dhaliwal re-established his credibility (at least with me) with being in the know with UFA signings Jim Benning had lined up.  He was on the ball about the volume of moves that were to come on Day 1...I'm sure he could have pulled a Seravalli and spilled all the beans, but he held off and let the day unfold while giving us clues as to what was to happen.

He was also the first to bang the drum on the Connor Garland move, a move that I thought was a possibility for the Canucks at some point starting from as far back as when it was reported that ARZ had not even spoken to him about an extension.

Barry used to be known at one point for feeding rumors and such. Upfront conversations like the one posted are great. Also thanks for that. Not sure where I got 10m in my head.  Honestly though I wasn't hating on Barry more though than admiring his ability to pull off things for clients. Being a piece of $&!# is kinda part and parcel of being an agent :)
