Why does it seem everyone in the hockey world is surprised at how much Mike Smith is struggling? His best years are behind him and were wasted in Arizona

Guy's a bum.
Media glosses over it to cajole/console Cdn markets.
League/media knows where their bread is buttered. Meanwhile, they treat Cdn teams as a conveyor(for top youth) system, where they can dump underachieving, overpaid vets. Our cap gets maxed, skaters highly taxed, & southern, tropical and/or desert regions get great young teams, where no one knows what a f***ing hockey puck is.

Is there a bigger homer in hockey than Mark Spector and his Oiler fluff pieces?
-
Anyone else sick of these stupid Leaf ads with the kids playing road hockey and the announcer talking about which Leaf scored and how they are going to the playoffs etc?
-
Anyone else think the Leafs will be 1st round fodder for the Bruins with all the goals they have been letting in lately?

@5Fivehole0 Sportsnet said the issue of 1 v 8, 2v 7 (old format) was raised at the GM meetings but that the 'league' likes the existing format as it allows for tighter games/series in the first 2 rounds, which creates more viewership. I guess they feel, as more teams drop out, you get fewer and fewer watching the playoffs as we move to the finals, which means less tv revenue, which makes sense. So from a revenue perspective they want the best match ups early when everyone is watching to max tv revenue. They also felt it creates more rivalries. I am with you, what matters to me, you, real fans is the best 4 teams in the semis, and best 2 in the finals. Last year, that actually happened anyways, but many years it has not. What's the point being a top team over the 82 game schedule if you don't get an advantage come playoff time. I loved the old format as well.

LMAO 1260 TSN in Edmonton is suggesting the Oilers trade for Nylander this summer - ummmm how????

Wait..... what???? Maybe it wasn't all Chiarelli's stupidity in Edm?

And then there's Talbot who probably wants out of there no matter what. Im my mind his play fell off because they played him way to much and he has a porous D that allows too many chances, and therefore a goalie cheats more then he should.
If he goes to a good team next year I bet his numbers rocket up from where they are now.
-
Nylander sure is showing he's worth that new contract

Ahhh WJC - that time of the year when TSN becomes relevant for 2 weeks :D

Anybody else wonder if Flyer fans whine as much about picking Patrick over Pettersson as some CDCers do about Joulevi over Tkachuk?

surprisingly the philly fanbase is quite knowledgable , since their hey days of the broad street bully era ,been a closet flyer fan since then and have followed the team since my time playing in smithers and also attending Watson brothers hockey schools as a kid , i'll add , smithers is flyer hot bed , with home boys jimmy and joe Watson , and ron Flockhart. although hamhuise has been ruling the roost lately

Chiasson has been a nice surprise for Edmonton - anyone else see Chiarelli signing him 6 yrs 6 Million

Damn - Bruce says the goal is to win the week and bam!! - boys go out and do that for him. Love how this guy breaks things up into small goals not the typical we have to win 45 of the next 60 games etc. That's coaching!!!

Bruce is all about changing behaviour, and a long-time strategy for behaviourists wanting to change behaviour is to give the subject short term, attainable goals with high feedback and accentuation of the positives. Nobody ever got better being told how bad they were. Bruce is one example of how experience and wisdom trumps youthful exuberance and impulsiveness. He seems to have all the answers because he's seen all of this before and knows the plot, the dialogue and the steps needed to pull out of this season-long slump.

Funny how people were giving me funny looks not that long ago for still wearing my mask and lo and behold here in Albertabama masks are mandatory once again! Let the whining begin.

Yes, I can relate. I stepped into a convenience store at a gas
station two weeks ago. I was the only one wearing a mask.
None of the 3 employees, or the 12 other customers, was
wearing one. A few people did look at me as if I were a little
"different," No, my fly wasn't down, JM.
Today, I stopped into that same convenience store and everyone
was following the rules and wearing a mask. It was nice to see that.

Anyone else wondering how long until Calgary signs Toffoli?

You have to admit - it's a bold strategy on how to beat us - sign some of our great players. i do wonder though if Trevling realizes he only faces us what 4 times a year
I think this goes to show the Benning haters that he does know how to build a team and I think he is learning from his mistakes like the Erikkson contract but being prudent on the contracts he offers now.

Conor has COVID 19?

So the last time the Canucks were in the playoffs - Tampa and Boston played each other..... is history going to repeat itself and we get another shot at the Bruins????
-
Lets not kid ourselves or be too hard on this team - we are at best a Wild Card entry and likely quick 1st round exit team. The goal now is just make the damn playoffs surrender that 1st rounder for JT and move forward

I always thought this was a borderline playoff team that'd probably just miss out. I definitely think this is a playoff team next year though.
Wouldn't hurt my feeling to just miss out on the playoffs this year yet be competitive for them year round. Also gives us a top 15 pick in a deep first round

What does Loui have that Milan doesn't???? A goal hahaha -love it

Just moved to Winnipeg 2 weeks ago for work - looking forward to watching the Nucks play the Jets here as well as the Lions trounce the Blue Bombers Anybody else from the Peg?

Man good tilt between Benn and Anderson tonight in the CLB-DAL game - bit of a slobber knocker

LMAO if the Nucks were to somehow make the playoffs I wonder how salty folks would get here in Deadmonton

Is there anybody other than Mark Spector on Sportsnet that writes more useless columns on a daily basis?

@NewbieCanuckFan They usually do well in the regular season and then fall apart in epic fashion in the first or second round.
This year though their epic failures began early on and now they're recovering.
