[Rumor] Adam Larsson to test FA

not sure if this is true.

1. First of all there are always two parties involved. There is a chance that Larsson isn't happy with either term or money the Oilers offered him.

2. The flat cap world is an important restriction.

Honestly I don't know how much cap space the Oilers have right now, but I know for sure that they can't afford to re-sign Barrie and Larsson after the Duncan Keith acquisition.

Barrie has tremendous value for the Oilers on the powerplay.

I think Oilers are stuck in a dilemma right know making a decision what player they will keep (Larsson or Barrie).

Think this is the problem, and they sound like they're going with Barrie.

Keith doesn't bring much offence anymorw but think he'll be useful on the PK, but he's nowhere near as defensively sound as Larsson.

They're probably expecting a lot of the offensive duties to be carried by Nurse and Barrie, and defensive shutdown work done by Keith, Bear/Bouchard and hopefully Klefblom.

If we can get him between 5-5.5 for 4 years, I’d be down for a contract like that.

See how he is after that (would be 32 years old).

Might even have to give him 5.5 over 5 years in order to beat out the competition.   Yes, that extra year sucks, but this is the reality of the UFA market in terms of bidding wars.

Latest news on Adam Larsson:

Again, that feels like buzz words for yes he will test the waters. Larsson earned that right to do so as he searches for the right contract. The odds may diminish but Edmonton feasibly could offer the defender a 5 x 5 deal or something close. That could be all it takes to keep Larsson in Edmonton.

It does not seem like the two parties are that far apart. J.P. Barry, his agent, has not acknowledged it in so many words, and yet he has.

Negotiations can change in a blink of an eye and there are still ten days or so to go.

Given they can’t sign him now with him being a UFA and that they just traded for Keith right before the expansion I would hold thoughts till after, when FA is about to hit.

I think there’s a good chance that they’re just waiting till the expansion is over so they can use that extra protection spot.

This would be a nice addition for us. Let's say hypothetically Seattle is planning to take Holtby anyways.

Sign Larsson, sign Tatar/Schwartz or someone like that.

Miller - Petey - Brock

UFA - Horvat - Hoglander

Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin

Motte - Beagle - UFA/Lockwood

Hughes - Larsson

Schmidt - Hamonic

Rathbone - Myers

If you get a bounce back from Hughes, a healthy Pettersson, and improved defensive structure under Shaw - things aren't looking half bad.

while I'd like the canucks to go after larsson, I wouldn't be shocked if they were keyed in on david savard instead. he could be a big help onboarding the d with whatever new systems brad shaw is planning to implement.

It would be nice to sign Adam Larsson and Jani Hakanpaa to deals which would allow us to move Schmidt back to his natural left side. It would give us a d core of:

Hughes - Larsson

Schmidt - Hakanpaa

Rathbone - Myers

Joulevi

I think these are affordable moves if we can move Holtby and buyout Virtanen. It would also allow us to potentially pick up another winger from Seattle to strengthen our scoring depth. My personal choice would be Mason Appleton but that would require a lot of assets going the other way in draft picks but it would give us another option to take face-offs and move up and down the lineup when needed. The outcome would be a lineup like this:

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - Hoglander

Appleton - Dickinson - Podkolzin

Motte - Beagle - Highmore

Hughes - Larsson

Schmidt - Hakanpaa

Rathbone - Myers

Joulevi
