  2. Wonder if you could swing Myers (25%retained) + Lockwood for Puljujarvi+Ceci.

Saves Edmonton money. Gives us an equally good slightly younger defensemen and a middle six winger.

      Devron

I just think we are already are one of the best teams in the league on the wing. Somehow we need to improve the defence and subtract to add doesn’t help unless we are getting some big shot. Tough to do but hopefully they figure something out. A trade like this could works if we had a secondary trade in place to move out a winger and bring in another RH defencemen

    3. Phil_314

      Phil_314

I wouldn't say it's subtracting to add help; Myers costs 2x of what Ceci does, so in essence you're getting Myers for half price by getting Ceci, then if/ when Poolparty's value improves (e.g. if they put him on PP 1 and he starts scoring) then we could flip his $3 million contract to address defensive needs (with injuries, inevitably some team will want a winger, either Miller or Poolparty or someone else, and we'd have a prime asset to flip for that RD from a desperate team e.g. if the Islanders don't land Kadri and still have scoring issues, we could flip Poolparty say for Mayfield).

I agree, not a fan of lucky "lotto". Should be called the Jackpot line. PP is the Extra

    3. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

It's a play on Lotto 6/49. Their jersey numbers are 6-40-9 (just in case people actually don't know). Don't think anyone's implying they're getting lucky.

    4. Chickenspear

      Chickenspear

@Brad Marchand It's just when you say lotto, luck is pretty much the next word you'd think of. I understand the whole 6/49 thing, but jackpot is kinda more of a fitting description of how that line actually plays.

  5. McDavids an entitled joke. "I didn't expect to get suspended"... even though it was a clear hit to the head.

If someone had hit McDavid like that he'd be crying like the Manning incident and then that player would be suspended minimum five games.

That entire organization is a joke and that includes all the players in it.

Jets don’t re-up Myers because...?  ( they have a fair bit of cap space available)

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

They don't have that much cap space. Trouba, Laine, Conner and Brossoit all need new deals this offseason among other smaller cap hit guys like Tanev and Petan. Also Wheelers new deal kicks in. So who knows but they have some expensive contracts coming up.

    4. 40Dangles

      40Dangles

@@NewbieCanuckFan Jets have little cap space when you consider what Retro just said. Also on the right side they have Buff, Trouba, and Meyers. Buff is making 7.6 for 2 more years, Trouba is making same as Meyers at 5.5 and is a RFA and is ahead of Meyers on the right side and younger. They cant afford 3 RD making 7.6, 7, and 6.5. Not to mention reupping Laine (who's going to get 10+) Connor, this year, and Morrisey in a year, etc https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/jets

      They have the early edge.

    4. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Gaudette is the best bet for sure. Juolevi will probably be second on that list followed by Demko at 3rd, largely because I think Demko will backup Markstrom in 2019-20 and won't be a start until late in that season or 2020-21. Dahlen still has to prove himself in the AHL before even making the team, so he's a wildcard.

  9. I totally agree with this and in a way want Baer to be moved. But, Sedins leaving may mean we hold onto Baer for a while longer even though Id be fine giving his ice time to guys like Goldy, Virtanen and Leipsic. Thoughts? Would you move Baer?

Montreal doesn't need wingers but Cs.  They are not going to use picks on players they don't need when their priority are top-6 Cs and a PMD to play with Weber.

Gagner! Gagner for a second round pick .

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

"deal him for picks" trading a player's rights instead of signing him first pretty much cuts his value in half.

  10. So Goldy has a great game and doesn't get a chance in OT? And then you put both Sedins out at the same time? Sedins are great but they are too slow for 3-3.

giving them a chance at glory for the last few times ?

i'm starting to believe they will be packing it in after this season

i really do not see useful roles for them next season

and i'm a huge sedin fan

but i think it's coming to an end

they again are gonna fall short of hitting 50 points

i really doubt they'd get 40 next season if they did return

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

ya you'd like to see them go out playing decent, so Im hoping they retire. But you never know. Goldy could be the next Sedin, he has the offensive talent and unfortunately the same defensive deficiencies. Yet he's a faster skater. Im really hoping he has a Sedin spot next year.

  11. Send Virtanen to Utica tomorrow when you activate Bo. He's just not showing consistency and the style of game we need him to play. Better for him to get top minutes down there and some confidence back.

    3. Cramarossa

      Cramarossa

Danny is on a five game point streak, with seven points in his last 10 games. Hank just ended a five game streak himself. They are contributing more than many others. It's time for the youngsters (and goalies) to step up; they haven't.

    4. J-23

      J-23

Virtanen needs to know he's still competing for a spot, should be working on his game all the time, on breaks, off-season etc. Working hard, because he ain't going to be getting many more opportunities, and I've been the biggest Virt fan.

  12. With Edler potentially injured, do we claim Streit? Would be a potential trade chip at deadline and cost nothing. Might just depend on how long Edlers injured but he'd be a good vet presence for our backend.

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Plenty of speed at the top of next years draft. I honestly don't see our team/prospects (as of right now) being competitive enough to make the playoffs. Best to get some more assets and high draft picks while we can.

  13. Thought the team played well tonight but was disappointed that Virtanen only received just over 7 minutes. Considering he was having an impact and from what I saw playing strong, Id liked to have seen him hit the 10min mark. Im just hoping this isn't a precursor to what happened with Jake/McCann. Virt low min and brock cut isn't in my mind the best way to sell a rebuild and move forward. Hopefully things change in the coming games as I realize the small sample size.

      coastal.view

      he had a solid game

he was put in instead of boeser.. good decision

coaching choices were well thought out

sedins got limited ice time,  and played reasonably well, given the oilers' speed

but let's start micromanaging our coaching after 1 game anyway

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

Boeser didn't get cut he was a healthy scratch because he doesn't deserve anything. He's just like any other rookie he has to work his way to the top. I like watching Brock but he is a bit of a puck hog and makes mistakes because of it. He needs to learn the team is fine playing without him if he feels entitled.

That's not even mentioning the fact coach green wanted Dorsett in the game to shut down McDavid and he did a hell of a job doing it last game.

  14. Honestly think theres a chance Gaudette makes the team out of camp, even ahead of Pettersson. Don't get me wrong I think Pettersson makes the team pretty quick here but wouldn't be disappointed to see Gaudette make the team out of camp and Pettersson start the season centring Uticas top line with Dahlen and Lind.

Gaudette just looks more NHL ready, not more talented, and not a better player then Pettersson in the long run, but more ready for the rigours of the centre ice position in the NHL.

Thats pretty good since we still have a couple years of rebuild left. Have to appreciate Bennings ability to find talent in the draft. With future drafts and more unknowns that could arise as good players such as Rathbone, Candella, Brassard, Palmu you have to be excited.

Excited we will most likely be picking at the top of the draft again. I see 2 big holes in our lineup. A top line LW/C and a top RD. Luckily one of those needs can be filled in the coming draft.

  21. Everyone out hear trying to trade Rathbone for pretty much nothing. How about we give the kid some NHL games before saying he's too small or poor defensively. How many of you have actually watched him instead of just looking at his stats/ height weight metrics?
