It would be stupid not to try and trade a forward this offseason. No reason to lose an asset if you can get a pick out of it. No reason to worry about competition with prospects such as Pettersson, Gaudette, Dahlen, MacEwen, Jasek, Lind fighting for spots. Also if one wants more competition we could sign some PTOs.
In the end we should clear some room so we don't lose valuable assets

Waivers and buy outs are more likely the only way vancouver can clear a roster spot.
Gagme has no value, eriksdone has been worthless and would cost us a pick to move, bearcheese not sure how much value he has even he’s been a warm and cold player that’s been heathy scratched or long term injured every year he’s been in the nhl,not sure he’s a top 6 on most nhl teams. And we keep signing veteran 3/4liner ufas to 3-4 year deal with m-ntcs.
This is benning last season here (finger crossed) his 31st place team and empty area (again) will end him. The plug love will stop and hopefully ownership see then need a GM with a spine not a sniveling clueless puppet.
The only tradable players on this team are the ones that we can’t afford to move.
Trade from a position of strength so we can trade 4th liners and bottom pair d men.
Cant wait to see who we draft 4th oa.
Too bad the expansion draft isn’t this season we couldn’t lose a valuable asset if we tried.
-
Its sad how we have 13Mil tied up in Eriksson, Sutter and Dorsett. All self inflicted bad cap hits. Thanks Vegas for taking Sbisa at least from us. Benning better not throw too much money at big UFAs this summer. Take some bad cap from teams and gain more assets and move on.

Hearing some Hutton bashing on the radio. Out of curiosity am I the only one that thinks Hutton has proved himself a top 4 defensemen this year?
-
Chicken strips at Tims... what is the world coming to.
-
Does Eriksson have any trade value? Or is he a negative and would be a cash dump?
-
I wonder if we see Juolevi draw back into game action now that he doesn't have a chance of becoming Seattle expansion eligible.

rafferty was under contract during his college year in 2018/2019.
“Professional Games” includes the following: any NHL Games played, all minor league regular season and playoff games and any other professional games played, including but not limited to, games played in any European league or any other league outside North America, by a Player pursuant to his SPC
so minor league games counted too! according to the cba
i do not understand why teves would be considered eligible, because his contract was signed after the college year finished.
still there may be a source that you are referring to that goes against the CBA?
-
From your article: “Pursuant to his SPC” - standard player contract.
Rafferty did not have an NHL contract in college. College is not a pro league either but an amateur league.
Tryamkin is still Canuck property as RFA but is exempt because his years in the KHL don’t count as he is not under an SPC/NHL contract so only has 2 pro seasons.
Also “For the purpose of this section”. There are different definitions of age, pro years throughout the CBA. They are using the waiver definition of pro years for expansion.
Teves, Rafferty same situation as Fabbro. 1 game while Hughes as teenager needed 10 NHL games.

ALEXIS LAFRENIÈRE
If you haven't heard that name, remember it now!

So Goldy has two very good games and then gets demoted. Cant we just keep some of our best lines together and not change them up every game?

@smithers joe Goldobin is top six or bust. He has to earn his way for his spot, so this is a challenge for him to see if he can stick.

I don't mean to scare everyone here, but what if Megna makes the team out of camp...

Any advise for someone buying their first house?

Coastal, it wasn't my intent to "disparage an entire industry".
I just wanted to stress the importance of bringing in someone who understands the actual structure from foundation to peak and is actually allowed to remove/move materials in order to make those assessments.
The home inspector didn't find anything other than some funky DIY sink plumbing in the bathroom, two electrical sockets that weren't up to code because they were too close to the floor, and he recommended hard wired smoke detectors. All of those things had already been identified by the time he came through anyways.
@RetroCanuck - tldr: be diligent in the inspection stage. Get your tradesperson friends to take a look and buy em scotch for it. If you dont have those kinds of friends, look for referrals for a good contractor who does inspections. I believe most will as it gets them a foot in the door with a new homeowner who will most likely be doing renos.
-
Pay for a home inspection and make sure it is by a responsible company, that way you will have a list of projects that should be addressed in time.
Put a bit of extra money aside because there is always something to give you a headache and unless you are super handy or a contractor you will need that cash for something.
Always make sure you can handle the mortgage without starving.
Get used to not having extra money to go here and there, but once you start to build equity the banks will love you.
Talk to people in the neighborhood if you get a chance to find out a little about the place you are going to purchase(was it a drug house, was someone murdered there,is it a good neighborhood for kids etc.)
GOOD LUCK!

Does anyone else think McDavid is overrated?
Hes great off the rush but once he's stationary in the offensive or defensive zone he's just average.
In my mind he will never be the calibre that people think he will be.
Don't get me wrong he's a great player and he's young, but is he currently overrated?
- Show previous comments 8 more

McDavid is still young, he will round out his game as he matures, and will understand he can't be a one trick pony. The rest of the league will get faster, and his oppositions will find ways to slow him down.
The final game against Edmonton at home was a good indication of that. Tyler Motte literally shut McDavid down, skating toe to toe with him all game long. McDavid will need to learn to use his teammates better and create offense beyond just the rush.
-
Would you trade Eriksson for Ladd?
-
Heres hoping for a Guddy-Nylander trade!
-
Why is everyone trying to trade our developed/almost developed prospects. Lets just trade Juolevi Virtanen and Gaudette....
Let the team grow. Our window is long if were patient

@#Canucks I get what you mean by he's probably going to click soon, but the streakiness/ lack of consistency might need a Grabner-type trade to really light a fire under him. If benching/ relegating to extra forward and getting called out by coach for your lack of effort doesn't do it (esp. when you get beaten by an undrafted free agent), not sure what else could be done since we can't send him to minors. Of course he won't have optimal value now but we should recoup what we can if he's not going to have optimal deployment and coach's trust (maybe send J.T. Miller after him for being lazy and have him skate with Pete to see what true consummate professionals do?).
-
@Phil_314 I’m not sure what the answer will be but I have this feeling he’s looking for something in his personal life. He has the skill & size and he knows how to play. When he is motivated he’s absolutely awesome to watch. He may have personal insecurities that will only go away with maturity but I do think maturity is the key with him. Time will tell whether that is here in Van or somewhere else.

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate what Benning has done for our prospect pool! He's made some mistakes along the way, but our prospect pool is the deepest its ever been and with some elite prospects! Hell our Hobey Baker winner isn't even considered in our top 5 by many people!
Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, Juolevi, Gaudette, Dahlen, Lind, Woo, DiPietro, Gadjovich, etc, etc, etc.
Jim Benning, we thank you!
-
Although it would hurt our team I almost wish Baertschi would retire. Concussions are brutal and to be on your fifth one and hear Baer talk the way he is makes me nervous for him. Hoping him the best life he can live so lets pray he doesn't take any more stupid headshots.

Makes me wonder if he'll be able to play anymore, if that side-swipe did that much damage. Hate to see a skilled player suffer injuries like this, before he even hits his peak. It would be nice to have Baertschi back, but the Canucks do have some depth to fill in. Baer's got to do what's right for him and his future.
-
Can someone honestly tell me that Spooner has more of a future at this club then Goldobin?
-
Can someone explain to me how a high stick that draws blood isn't a 4 minute penalty?
- Show previous comments 6 more
-
The ref is not required to assess a double minor if there is blood. It’s an option the ref has at his discretion. Options being a double minor, a major, or a match penalty, IF there is a obvious/visible injury. I’ve seen double minors assessed when there wasn’t blood.
Don’t agree with the call tonight, but it was within the rules.
-
So how many picks will Benning go "off the board" this year with?
- Show previous comments 5 more
-
Every draft has different levels of prospects based on ratings by pro scouts. Therefore its not hard to go off the board in any round. All Im saying is that Benning is known to go against the flow with some of his picks and in some cases unearth diamonds. And then sometimes you choose off the board and it backfires. Virtanen is the perfect example of this considering how he's developed so far.

Sounds like Edmonton wants to ditch Sekera. Would you trade Hutton for Sekera+Puljujarvi?
-
Would you trade,
Guddy straight across for Florida's first?
Tanev for Edmontons first+Mantha?
Baertschi for a late first?
Hutton for a third?
- Show previous comments 5 more

@-AJ-, yes but they had the key pieces you could build around. You need stars and those now come through the top end of the draft. Much harder to find gems in the later rounds like Detroit did.
Modern NHL you need that top end talent and then build around them. We have a few of those guys in Bo, Brock, Pettersson, Juolevi, Demko but we need more, especially on D if we wish to succeed and win cups.
-
I beg to differ Retro, our team is weak on D prospects. And defensemen are always in demand.
I'd like to see our first 3 picks as d-men. The next 3 on bpa.
- Dahlin (ok wishful thinking)
- If Samuelsson is still available in second round, otherwise Stanislav Demin.
- Xavier Bouchard
The smallest d man in that group will be 6'2". Because Utica needs some d-men too for developing.
-
Differ on what Ghost? The trades? Because I agree with you and do think we need those D prospects you refer to (I like Miller over Samuelsson) and trading pieces away for high picks and ending up near the bottom of the league are the way to get them.
Our problem isn't necessarily that we don't have D prospects, we just don't have elite ones that you usually get through the top end of the draft.
-
Considering Granlund's deployment 5G 11P is pretty damn good. If he keeps this pace up he will be around 15G 35P which is pretty good considering his 3rd/4th line deployment and line mates.
-
Anyone have the Athletic and can tell there 20 through 11 prospects?
They have MacEwen at 10 which somewhat surprised me so am curious to know who's below him.
-
Best part about this final 4 is that none of them have won in a while, or ever. Tampa won in 2004 which was 14 years ago.
Im glad Pittsburgh and Boston are out for that reason

@Roger Neilson's Towel I'm stricken because on one hand I want Jets to bring a cup to Canada, but on the other Vegas is my new #2 favourite team behind Canucks and I really think a cup win for them would be an epic story to remember.
Wouldn't mind seeing Ovi win the cup either...
Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman are my favourite non-canuck players. If any of the 4 teams win the cup, I'll be happy!
-
@Baer. I guess you’re guaranteed to be happy then!

Prediction- NyR and Canucks are working on something big
